Question Need a new battery. Reccommendations

My battery just got stolen from out front. so besides a chain n lock, i will need a new battery. I need to know if I should just get one again, or two? I always camp at a campground with electricity and am plugged in. Is two overkill? Im just getting a marine/rv battery as that's what I had before...but not sure 2 would benefit me in any way? suggestions? thanks.

Get a true deep cycle not a marine. Unless you have a residential fridge one should be enough.

If you always camp with electric hookups, a single marine battery is fine.

If you plan on dry camping or boondocking, get two 6v golf cart batteries.

I've seen a lot of recommendations for 2 6v. I currently have two 12v. Is that better or worse than two 6v?

Also, are lifepo4 batteries getting cheap enough to consider?

I am beginning to see some price drops on lithiums. Still pricey. Look on Alibabba site, imports from good-ole-China. Another idea if you are handy, look at converting used hybrid car batteries. I am still researching those. My 2-2 year old Trojan-clones from Costco seem to be holding up fine. E-Dad and several others on here are using the Battle-Borne batteries, with what appears to be great results. 1/3rd the weight, longer life, many more (2x?) useable amps. Biggest factor, no maintenance!

Better.
Unless they are true 12v deep cycle batteries, which are rare.

I installed two AGM batteries in my Arctic Fox years ago and never had any problems at all. Very stable and efficient.

If you have he room Costco usually sells Interstate GC2 batteries(6 volt golf cart) at less than$100 each. 260 amps. Overkill if you seldom move.

Assuming BOTH the 12V and GC.s are true deep cycle, there is no advantage for GC except that they are usually cheaper for equivilent QUALITY and AMP hours. The disadvantage is that if one 6V fails...you're out of business whereas a single 12V will keep you going. For a FOUR battery bank, the 6V has no disadvantage.
LifePO4's are not ready for prime time as drop in batteries in an existing system...but LifePO4 complete systems can be reliable from some suppliers providing complete solutions. They remain QUITE expensive but under lab conditions they are the cheapest battery per amp hour delivered over their lifetime. Note that most environments do not duplicate labs...for example LifePo4's cannot be CHARGED in freezing weather. And you should look at your intended use to see if you will EVER use all the deep cycles they cn provide...otherwise they won't be the cheapest amp hours you can buy.
Example: If you camp 100 days a year...it will be 30 years before you can use 3000 cycles to 50%. Do you and your coach plan to be around that long?
Hope that helps.

I have used them before and they seemed good. Right now I am thinking Interstate is the best.

We just bought one of those earlier this week. Works great so far.

Since you always camp with an electric hookup, you don’t need to spend the extra $$ to go with 6V golf cart batteries (unless you have plans to try boondocking or dry camping in the near future). You just need to think about how long you might need to be able to power your 12V circuits if the campground power ever goes out.

We also never camp without an electric hookup but have seen the campground power go out in stormy weather. I’m currently just running the single 12V Interstate SRM-24 marine battery that the dealer installed. It’s on its 4th year this year. I’ll likely replace it next year with something like a single Trojan 27TMX true deep cycle battery.

I'll leave it to the others to recommend 6v vs 12, Walmart vs Costco, etc., but my recommendation is to make sure you get a fresh battery. Stick with a store that sells lots of batteries in the size you choose. In a store that moves them well enough you should be able to find one that isn't more than a few months old.

I once was at a local regional store (BiMart for those in the NW) and noticed a fresher battery in front of an older one. I got curious and dug to the back of the shelf where I found a battery that was over 4 years old. Sooner or later some poor fellow bought that battery and probably blamed the brand for its poor performance.

I also vote for the Trojan 27TMX. I am on my 2nd.....I have kept my first one, just in case. I periodically put it on my battery minder to keep it charged.
