Need help in choosing TT

Newbie here

We are about to purchase our first TT, but cannot come to an agreement on which of the 2 is best. My wife wants the 2017 Cherokee Grey Wolf 26DBH and I want the 2017 Cherokee 274DBH. Both are almost identical floor plans besides the 274DBH weighing 460 more pounds, has a longer slide, and has more space between the dinette and kitchen area. My only concern is packing too much "stuff" into the 274 and running out of CCC. The 26 has a CCC of 1930lbs vs the 274 with a CCC of 1489. Both have the almost identical GVWR of 7725, which is a safe limit for my TV at 8500lbs of towing capacity (2012 Infiniti QX56).

Some other information to consider: We are a family of 4 with 2 young boys. We would like to occasionally use the back cargo carrier that comes with the limited package for bikes or a grill.

My question is.... Could I get away with purchasing the 274 or is it a no brainier to go with the 26 and the extra 460lbs of CCC?

If you are concerned about weight leave some water behind, myself I would go with the more room and not worry about it.

I should note that with a full fresh water tank (46 gall x 4.3) at 382lbs on both, that only leaves a CCC of 1558lbs on the 26DBH and 1085lbs on the 274DBH.

Check the load capacity on the door. Online specs say max load capacity is about 1600 lbs. Your hitch weight will be about 950 lbs and the WDH will add 100. This will leave you 550 lbs for passengers and equipment in the TV. I am sure you will find people who tow with that TV, but it might not be relaxing.

They are the same exact length, however because the Cherokee sits higher, it requires 3 steps to get in. ALSO, because it sits higher, the there is no wheel well to interfere with the slide out, meaning the floor on the slide is flat in the Cherokee vs the step up in the Grey Wolf. Because of this, you lose the storage area behind the couch in the Cherokee. The wind profile is higher on the Cherokee because of this as well.

The Slide out is a little bit deeper on the Cherokee, and they added a window to the side of the slide in the dinette area, creating more natural light.

The hot water heater is located in under the sink area in the Cherokee vs under the front corner of the bed on the Grey Wolf. This means the Cherokee comes with a traditional Pass through, but with that perk, you will not be able to get the new outside kitchen that comes with the Grey Wolf 26DBH.

They started putting them in the late 2016's (Of course I got an early one). It's nothing huge, but it would be better than nothing.

I would also take into consideration that the 26DBH sits that extra 6" lower thus lowering your wind profile. Depending on what you're towing it with......

I would get in both of them try everything out and see/feel which one you like better. When all said and done you will be living inside this thing so you need to be very satisfied with the feel or you will be back doing this again shortly.

Last year we went to look at a 22rr grey wolf. Looked at brochures and pictures when we went to see it there was a 26rr there. They are different floor plans and 26 is 2 ft longer. We went back and forth going into each one comparing the two. Sales person probably thought we were crazy.

We had a better feel with the floor plan of the 26rr and got that one. I am glad both were on same lay to do a side by side real time comparison. Don't regret it. Love my Grey Wolf.

I have always said get the one your wife likes, but that could also be changed to get the trailer you LOVE. Dont buy a smaller trailer or a compromise trailer because you will end up buying the one you love in the end anyways after spending a bunch of money on a compromise.

So which of the 2 trailers do you Love?

Haha...I bet that's the problem for the OP....one isn't "Smaller" at all....just minor tweaks that make them different.

I was actually thinking in my mind there might be a 3rd option not listed that OP decided was too big or too expensive, but they really liked.

I think you answered your own question - and it has nothing to do with ccc

Seriously though - even the 1489 is pretty high number for ccc. Unless you are going someplace with no water available, you can generally travel with the tanks nearly empty. You'll see people out there who carry everything they own (and don't use half of it), but even after your battery, propane, other options not included in the "fake" brochure dry weight, you'll still have around 1,000 pounds to work with which should be fine.

I don't know the specs on your tow vehicle, but SUV's (and many 1/2 ton pickups) run out of payload capacity due to tongue weight, passengers, and gear in the tow vehicle long before you reach the max weight on the trailer.

Double check your payload numbers for the tv and then pick the one you like (or the one DW likes!).

We have been towing a total of 10 different TT's for 46 years and we have filled our water tank a total of three times. Most campgrounds have water hookup or faucets to fill up when you get there. On the rare occasion that you need water, just carry the bare minimum.

I always carry 5-10 gallons. No more gas station bathrooms for the Mrs.
