New discovery about the factory rear rack

New personal discovery, that is.
I had thought the rear rack was attached to the bumper. It it NOT!
The hinge section top may rest on the top of the bumper a bit but it is actually clamped with bolts around the frame in front of the bumper.
So the clamped on hinge is bearing the major weight of the rack and not the bumper.

Our Grey Wolf 23Mk is the same way. The 200# capacity cargo rack is mounted to the frame, and when it's down and the pins are in, sits slightly above the bumper.

That's how most of those fold down racks are built. The bumper still supports the rack, but the rack doesn't create the torsional force that something clamped to the bumper would create.

You are still adding a lot of weight to the manufactured beams of the frame. Between the weight and stress of the items moving around you are placing a lot of stress on the frame.
