Plugging into the house

Just wondering.... I had a popup last year (before I upgraded) and would try cooling off the fridge by plugging it into my house....didnt work. I thought it was broken but it fired right up at the campsite. So now that I have my new trailer I tried it just to see and no go! The green light wont even turn on on the fridge but everything else electrical in the camper will. (same thing the popup did) It runs fine off of gas though (same as the popup).

Am I just not getting enough juice from the house? I assumed the fridge was running off converted power getting 12v...but I may be wrong.

I know it will convert from gas to electric (electric being first choice if present).

Any help is greatly appreciated...I'd love to be able to plug in the night before a trip and have it cold and ready to go.

Are you using 15 amp adapter?
It should work your outlet must be bad.

I leave mine plugged in 24/7 365
But I also installed a 30 amp outlet so I could run air
And micro.

I believe it's a standard 15amp wall outlet and i had a plug adapter to put on the power cord. Thats why I was thinking it wasnt getting enough juice

I turn the camper's fridge on before a trip to pre-cool it...15A electrical supply so I use an adapter but it been no problem. The fridge only draws 1 - 2 amps so you must have other issues.

I'm not sure to tell you what else to look for...more help please!

if the outlet test good plugging say a drill in then maybe your adapter is shot.

If everything else (110v , like TV, micro, etc) works than its got to be a switch on the fridge.

The popup had a 3way fridge, the travel trailer has auto or gas (i believe), ..it was set to auto which should automatically go on when plugged in. The green light showing its on didnt even come on.

It was on when plugged in at the dealer, but not when I got home (same thing the old camper did). The outlet works as everything else electronic comes on in the camper, i.c tv, lights, micro, etc..

2 things to check our old pop up had a switch I disabled, if it was closed you could not run the fridge, also it had a tilt sensor and if it was not real close to level it would not run.

EDIT: sorry didn't realize it was not a pop up now, but tip sensor is still possible. also you could have a case where your "Line and Neutral" wires (black and white) are reversed in the house plug and the fridge is not liking it. You can pick up a tester for about $5 at home depot and it will tell you if they are; or if you look at the inside of your plug the white (normally) is neutral and it should be on the left side looking at the plug face the black wire (normally) is Line and should be on the Right side also most 3 prong plugs the Line side is the smaller vertical hole

I have always ran off of an outside outlet here at home. I used to plug our PUP in a few days before a trip to cool it down, made sure the switch was in AC, not DC. I am now plugging our 25RS into it also, now problems. In fact, last week I left it on all week because we were heading out in just a few days. No problem encountered....

it would help if you posted pics of the fridge's panel or the brand/model number.

Is the fridge plugged in?
Is the outlet its plugged into a GFCI or GFCI protected outlet?

If you pull off the outside cover, you should be able to see where the fridge plugs in. I'd plug in your trailer, make sure everything is plugged in and switched on, and check for 110 in the outlet for the fridge. Don't forget to check your fridge fuses on the board, too.

Im going to have to bring it back from storage and try a few things. I have a feeling it may be because it isnt level. I have a very steep driveway and tried to get it close but it was still low in the front.

Im going to take my outlets in the garage apart too and make sure they are wired correctly. I may just put a 30amp in the garage and call it a day. If I can get the wire to the basement.

Jar - I know exactly what you are talking about with the popup's switch when closing the lid. I figured that was what that was for.

Thanks for all of the reply's. I'll have to bring it home and test a few things.

I have a few questions/things to check

1) Is the battery in the camper, disconnect on, and fully charged?

The fridge is most likely only a 2 way (120VAC and gas). In order for either to work 12 VDC MUST be available. 12 VDC runs the computer that switches the AC or gas on and off. (It also turns that "green light" on. It is amber in my camper)

2) The converter is powered by a circuit breaker in the power panel and must be ON in order to make DC to run the fridge if the battery is low. reset the converter CB.

3) The battery must be charged (or at least capable of taking a charge).

A flat battery is treated by the power converter as a "dead short" and will shut the converter down. NO 12 VDC available is the camper even with shore power connected. Remove the battery, check the water level and connect it to a 4 stage charger with a desulphation stage and "recover" it if possible. Other wise replace the battery.

If you do have an "ON" light, but and it works on gas but not 120VAC, then look to the circuit breaker panel that contains the fridge, a GFCI tripped before the outlet the fridge is plugged into, or the 120 VAC fuse in the fridge.

Update..... All is good now. Brought the camper home and plugged everything in..still no power to the fridge. I took the panel off of the outside of the camper and after following wires, found out the yellow 12v was unplugged. The dealer may have done it to winterize it..not sure but dont care as long as it's working now.

Thanks everyone!

Blake

Using an extention cord. I did buy a 25' Rigid 12g extention cord though. It's a lot thicker than standard extention cords.
