Water heater gas switch

New to travel trailers. I have a 2014 grey wolf 26dbh. It has a suburban hot water heater that is electric and gas with the DSI. I've looked for a way to shut off gas to the tank and have been told there is a on/off switch somewhere in the unit. I've looked everywhere and cannot find it. There is a cabinet on the left as you go in the door that has switches for the awning, slide out, furnace, pump, and 3 rocker switches that control 2 outside lights and a couple kitchen lights but nothing for the water heater. Does anyone have this model or similar that can help me?

Look at the two red switches in the lower right of the pic. One says HTR (that's the switch to turn ON/OFF the propane side of the water heater). The other says PUMP which turns ON/OFF the 12v water pump. The little red LED between the two switches is the FAULT light for the propane side of the water heater.

I thought that switch that says heater was for the furnace.

No. The furnace is controlled by the thermostat. If the little red switch controlled the furnace, you wouldn't be able to set a variable temperature on the furnace.

The furnace is on a thermostat so you can set the temperature.

Sorry, Mr Dan beat me to it.

Oh I see now. I thought the switch turned on the pilot for the furnace then the t stat controlled the temp. I didn't get any manuals on using anything in here. Thanks for the help!

It is highly unlikely that a unit as new as a 2014 would have a pilot light anywhere but in the oven... not on the furnace, not on the water heater.

I sure do appreciate the help! Now I can sleep out there and use the furnace. I work nights and the house isn't always quiet with kids home.

Is your trailer plugged in to any power source? The reason I ask: a furnace uses 12 volts from the battery for the control board, ignition of propane and BLOWER. The blower sucks much juice from the battery and you need a 110vAC electric source (from power outlet or generator) to power the converter to recharge your battery.

Cavie got that right. We seldom run ours. We use our electric fireplace and an electric space heater if we're plugged into sufficient electrical current.

It's not plugged in right now and the battery is off. For some reason the converter wasn't charging it. I used a meter and it showed voltage going to the battery but the battery was completely dead so I took it off and put it on a trickle charger.

Ranger36, read this thread, because if you do have the electric heating element for the water heater, it will be the Suburban brand and this FAQ is applicable:

Oh. I've never used it so I didn't know how loud it was. It's still gotta be quieter than a 5 yr old who's cooped up inside.

The FAQ link above in post #13, should show you how to properly operate your water heater on propane, and if applicable, the electric heating element.

Hope it helps, as this is often not properly explained.
