Water pump runs every 30 seconds or so?

When running off the fresh water tank, my pump runs for about a second approximately ever 30 seconds (TT listed in signature). Time for a new pump or is it possible to replace the check valve spring (I assume this is the problem as I haven't found any leaks)?

Thanks.

You have a leak somewhere. Either external or internal, something is not holding pressure.

You definitely have a leak somewhere!! This is the easiest way to know about a water leak! My knowledge is that a bad motor would run all the time as it would never build up any pressure ( but I do not have any personal experience!). I personally found my leak to be at the city water connection when this happened to me at the start of the camping season this year!!!

You could have a small grain of sand etc in the check valve.Try opening both hot and cold water full flow and let it run for a minute then shut off quickly. Might clean it out.

You might want to check your water heater pop-off valve. We had the same problem of sporadic pump operation and found the problem was a small leak from that valve. Once replaced, the problem went away. We also notice that if we turn off the hot water tank at night, the pressure goes down and more water fills the void, and that will cause the pump to run briefly also. Hope this information helps.

Thanks for the tips. I'm almost 100% confident that we don't have a leak. I've gone over nearly every inch of the system. The grain of sand in the check valve might be a possibility. I'll try blasting it out as per @Flybob's suggestion.

We had friend today and the prob was so bad that he couldn't get and hold a prime. Before pulling the pump out he hooked up to city water. Then off and on several times with the street pressure and then in between, the pump and we blew the sand or whatever Out.

I replaced a pump one day, without being so creative, just because it didn't pull up a prime. Wish I had thought it through better that day.

Had to disassemble my pump to remove plastic shavings from original assembly. Not difficult (if the pump is accessible).

Check the caps on the winterizing drain lines. Same thing happened to me. One required about 1/16 of a turn. That was it.
