What should happen during my walk through?

I know the tech will go over everything and I can be sure how everything works and there are no issues. They said to bring someone with me because I won't remember it all.

Up here in Michigan it's still cold and I know we don't want to de-winterize yet. I assume they will hook up to water to be sure there are no leaks etc. so I will have to wait another month.

What else will they do? What major things should I check?

X2 - and don't assume the tech will go over everything and don't assume he/she knows how everything works. If you don't feel comfortable with the tech knowing everything, ask questions.

If at all possible have someone video record the directions, there is a massive amount of information to absorb in a short time period. I have been messing about with RV's for 35 years. We just bought a new Concord motorhome and I missed some information about using the funky winterizing valve. I finally got it figured out. I know the tech went over it, but forgot what he said.

Also take a PDI (Pre Delivery Inspection) list with you and check things off as you go. You want your unit to be 100% BEFORE you leave the dealer, it can be difficult to get things fixed later.

Aaron
Is there an "end-all-be-all" list somewhere here? (I'll admit I haven't searched yet)

Suggestions?

So far I am thinking-
1. Outlet tester
2. Multimeter
3. Flashlight
4. Tire pressure gauge

Check-
Be sure HTH works
All faucets work no leaks
Does the water pump always run on 12V or does it need to
be tested w/ shore power?
Refrigerator gets cold and freezer too
AC
Heat
Stove
Slide works smoothly
All doors and windows open correctly
Check tire pressure
Lights
Not sure of how to test DVD player etc w/ no TV installed.

I'm open to other ideas!

Have the pdi done inside.
Hooked up to water, then have them re winterize it, before you leave.
You can watch.

I would bring a video camera with a good spotlight and plenty of batteries or connect to the RV outlet.
Dont use your cell, you will run out of battery.
If you do it right you will have 2 hrs of information and you will be able to winterize your RV next time.

Take time to check everything out, don't assume that they checked everything before you arrived. FYI, I assumed and I had to pay to get some a/c and 12v plugs fixed and one of my TV station didn't work. Just take your time, and if they try to rush you through, just tell them you'll come back when" They have more time to do it properly". I wish I would have done this! Good Luck and enjoy!

We picked up our new Concord about a week ago. We found a couple of things during our final, Final, FINAL walk through. There was a bad A/V cord and the A/V switch for the outside TV is wonky. I plan to upgrade the A/V cords to a better grade anyways to I gave them a pass on that. They are sourcing an A/V switch and will send it to me when it comes in. Other than those small items everything else worked, because I checked it. They had not put a DVD in and checked the players, which is how we found the bad switch and cord. It takes time to do it right.

X2 on doing PDI inside and then rewinterize ( $10 and 30 mins). Makes sure everything works. Video the PDI. Be wary of the brush off on an item. Do not let your excitement cloud your better judgement. This is the busiest time of year for RV dealers. Once you sign papers and the dealer has your money your priority in the service dept goes down. Don't accept " just take it and bring it back for any warranty work". You are buying this to enjoy it is better to get it a week or two late than to take it and have it sit for a month or two waiting for warranty repairs. If the issues are minor any you are comfortable doing them yourself, different story.

I was thinking that I would like them to run the water to be sure there are no leaks I was going to just wait until it gets warmer out before taking delivery.

Jeebus - that sounds like a nightmare! I don't want to get stuck like that.

There's a risk, that they find something, and now don't have the time to have it repaired quickly?

Do it inside, and watch them winterize it.

When I picked mine up, late last fall.
They de winterized it. We did the pdi.
Then I took it camping for the weekend. Dropped it back to them Monday morning to re winterize.
No charge.

Sounds like a good idea. Our yard is pretty wet now and wanted to wait before I bring it home but I suppose they can re-winterize it and keep it on their lot as long as I have the keys after the PDI.

How to use the appliances and care for the floor, roof, etc. are in the manuals. Make sure you get a manual for EVERY appliance (including the converter, propane detector, fire extinguisher, etc.)
Also, have them demonstrate, not just explain, the manual override to EACH motorized accessory on the trailer. Slides, stabilizing jacks, tongue jack, awning, anything powered.

Know before you GO

For as much as you are trying to glean from the posts, the dealer is going to do in 1/2 the time (don't let him do it). Since it is cold the furnace should be ON for your inside training. Anything that moves or is electrically operated, slides, awnings, microwave, refrigerator (tell the dealer to turn it on before you get there), TV (bring your own disk to check DVD player), water heater (too cold to check should be bypassed and empty), power jacks, water pump (should be winterized - a lot of TT use the pump to winterize with a set of valves, good to know where it is, with all the water valves closed have dealer stick siphon hose in jug of winterizer, pump should run a short time and stop while the rest of the features are explained) and anything else I missed. We were so anxious we didn't notice the furnace didn't run (in Oct., bad weekend), the stairs was lop sided, no DVD player, lots of sawdust in drawers/cabinets, some windows were not sealed properly (should be a little bead around all joints), one whole side had to be replaced - water damage and water leak in the shower (into pass through storage). Don't wait till Spring to find out, some repairs could take a month(s) out of your Summer.

we brought a couple of pads of post it notes and wrote things down. Put the post it note by what it explains (our tt was covered in post its ). Also, after they have gone over things we asked for some time in the tt by ourselves. That way we could kind of go through things ourselves and go over our PDI list to make sure we covered everything. After this (about 30-45 minutes) we went and got our salesman and asked him to go over several things again and asked about some things that he missed. cincia
