12 volt disconnect switch and charging Isata 5

Does anyone know if the house batteries will charge when the engine is running and the 12 volt disconnect switch is in the off position? Thanks

Best way to find out is to check house batteries with a volt meter. If voltage is higher with vehicle running, they are charging.

Does anyone else know definitively if they do charge or not?

I know definitively, that you should grab a multimeter and check.

Make sure you wait till the bcc relay has connected chassis to house.

When the battery is disconnected, it can't charge. The circuit has has to be complete. My Salem Cruise Lite 232RBXL did not come with a disconnect. I added one because the CO detector will still draw down the battery when the trailer is not in use. And that's he only time I switch off the battery.

I do know that the solar charger continues even when the 12 volt battery switch is off.

B Clemons is it possible for you to ask your engineer the answer to this question? Disconnect of the 13l2 volt system from the coach may not mean disconnection from the charging circuit.

When I rewire my battery to add 2 6V batteries and add solar, the converter, solar and trailer connector will go straight to the battery bank, through two circuit breakers that you can switch off. The additional main battery disconnect will be between the battery and the loads only. This way, you can charge with no loads on.

Seems silly to have a battery disconnect that prevents you from charging the batteries. Mine is for a trailer but wondering why it would be any different for a motorhome.

Does seem silly but it would prevent overcharging a battery while connected to shore power and a non float charger/converter was installed. My 2000 motorhome had such a converter and the battery could "boil" over (and did) if not disconnected at times. Just could be a legacy thing. There could also be other reasons also.

Could be true with non current converters. A modern high quality converter shouldn't have an issue. I am pulling the brand new WFCO that came with my unit. Will sell it on eBay.

Did I mention, at times, convenient disconnecting for storage?
