Automatic Generator Start (AGS)
Does the DX3 have Automatic Generator Start (AGS) built in the inverter, now or ever? If not, has anyone installed one aftermarket?
I’ve never run my batteries down enough to find out.

I'm sure you do... look at your Magnum readout panel, if that's the brand you have, and press the AGS button... there you go!
- AGS status to ENABLE
- VOLTS to 12.0~
- RUN TIME to 1hr~
- set 'Type' to OTHER, not RV, as this will allow the AGS settings to stay in place even if you turn on/off your generator on your own
SHORE button, set to 40amps
TECH button, set LBCO(LowBatteryCutOut) to 11.5volts, this keeps the inverter from taking you batteries down too low, if the generator were to fail to start with the AGS
now, you can 'test' your AGS operation by changing the AGS status from ENABLE to TEST...it will attempt the start the generator, run for 30 seconds, then automatically shut it off.
if successful, you'll know that it's working as it should be. Change the AGS status back to ENABLE, to allow the AGS to operate when the batteries need it.

Early models did not have the AGS. Later models (I'm not 100% sure of the date....2017?) had low voltage AGS and for 2019 MY, we have started adding temp triggers as well (although some of the late 18's had them as well)

My '18 came off the line in May '17 and it has a temp setting. Never used it though.

Did you add it? Does the inverter have to be changed? I don’t believe I have AGS and Brian (bclemens) confirmed that.

If you have the Xantrex inverter, there is a Xantrax AGS module I think can be added. We switched to the magnum one because while not as sophisticated it was WAY simpler to operate.

Thanks, I should have my RV back this weekend and I’ll check. But as I remember it is a Xantrex. I’ve spoken to the manufacturer before and they were very helpful. I’ll call next week.

My 2015 DX3 does not have AGS. I am thinking of installing a system though.

Thanks. The Zantrex AGS will not work with my inverter but it looks like Magnum has a stand alone one that will work independent of the inverter for a little over $200. I’m waiting for them to call me back to confirm

I’ve ordered the Magnum AGS S. Hope to get it installed before the rally. I’ll let you know how it works out.
I couldn’t get the one with temp control without changing my inverter.
I can see why Dmax went to Magnum, simpler

Correction: the ME AGS S does have temp control, according to the book and the manufacturer. The salesman I spoke to was wrong.
Now I just have to figure out how to get the wiring from near my generator remote start to the generator.

Ref: How to get the wiring from near my genorator remote start to the genorator” not sure if you mean the start switch that is on your dash, that’s where mine is. But just in case. I called Magnum a little over a week ago and asked if I could wire into that switch and was told no. The guy was not much help. I asked why not and he asked if I had the manual! He offered no reason.

The cable I was referring to is an Ethernet cable, I believe a Cat 6. The remote for the AGS can be installed anywhere inside your RV that’s convenient. The module can also be installed anywhere but close to your generator is the most convenient due to the number of connections between the two.
I’ve run my cat cable, now have to figure out the wiring in my generator

Automatic Generator Start (AGS)

Brian,
Thanks for your help in finding an AGS for my motorhome. I purchased a Magnum Energy AGS-S which has the same generator connect wiring as the AGS-N which I believe is the one DMax currently uses.
When I spoke to Onan folks they told me that there is a pigtail connector that installs between the generator female and the remote start male connector. This would be much better than splicing the wires.
If you’ll are currently using this connection then you must have a bunch in stock.
I contacted CJ, Tuesday this week, in purchasing and he told me that DMax couldn’t sell parts direct, I believe he spoke to you.
I contacted a dealership near Atlanta, RV World of Georgia, and spoke to Tracy Parker. She was happy to get it for me. I sent her photos of the unplugged connectors side by side and a description, similar to the one above, of what I was looking for. She sent the request to CJ.
I have been contacting her every day and she said that as of today she hasn’t heard back, she sent him another email.
I would appreciate your input.
Regards
Dennis LaFleur

We seem to have the AGS on our rig, however, it looks like I can set it all up from my Precision Plex panel which controls everything else (lights, water pump, awning, etc). Seems like you all are saying set it up from the inverter panel but it looks like all the options for set up including test mode are on the Precision Plex. Is this right? Or do I need to find all of that on the inverter panel.
Thanks,
Linda
