There was a work around ( at least on our DX3).
The light green wire needed to be grounded. There is a thread on here somewhere. Good Luck

Mine has a camera mounted over the rear view mirror with a rear and side cameras, works great. Here are a few options.
Digital Wireless Backup Camera System Kit, IP69K Waterproof Wireless Rear View Camera + 7’’ LCD Wireless Reversing Monitor for Trailer, RV, Bus, Trucks, Horse-trailer, School Bus, Farm Machine, etc https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071WW8Q8M..._IIe2zbHT5FY8B

Or the lock-pick that will allow you to turn the Ram camera on all the time. It notes it's not compatible with the dual camera system but the 5500 only comes with a single camera.

How do I know which camera system I have? I have a 2018 I5 on a 2017 5500. Right now backup camera works when backing only, but dealer thinks there’s a wiring correction.

Does your camera/monitor only come on in reverse? If so there is a extra wire from the Monitor that ties into Back up light circuit near monitor. When in reverse, the camera may be powered in rear or the monitor may get power from this circuit under the dash. Remove that wire from that circuit and connect to power on wire from camera or Ignition on hot circuit. That would keep "on all the time" situation. Without more info, I'm suggesting without checking out in detail PM for details

If you have side cameras on an Isata 5, then you have the new back up camera. For those posting about changing the reverse wire, that is on everything BUT the Ram 5500. Ram 5500 is the only unit that we run the stock stereo (8.4" uConnect) They do not offer a radio delete because so many things are controlled via the CANbus which is tied unit that radio. The reverse signal is not an analog power wire, but is just a signal through the CANbus. So we had to have a module developed that would read the left/right/reverse signals and convert that to a normal 12v signal to activate normal 12v side and reverse cameras. The only way to get "all time" back up view on the early Ram 5500 is through a software command that Ram tells me is not available on the Cab chassis. Or, use a wired/wireless monitor/camera system that just comes on when you push the power button.

Brian I have a 2018 with the side view cameras on my unit but can’t figure out how to get the rear view monitor to come on when in drive. was this fixed on the 2018?

A few points.
You cannot replace the radio in a ram with the 8.4 screen.

Custromix from Europe has a jailbreak software update that allows video to be on at any time.
I had it on my 2500. I could switch between rear cam and front cam at will.
It also turns on front cam when under 10kph in drive. Really handy.

I just walked out to one. Fired up the engine. Hit the power button the monitor (this is clipped over the existing Dodge rear view mirror) and the rear camera popped right up.

Can you post a picture of what you are looking at so we're all on the same page?

Attached picture is monitor hooked to my 2018 I5. When I push the button nothing happens, backup works in reverse and side cameras when work when turning. Dealer thinks it’s a wiring harness issue. But we have not confirmed service appointment yet.

Engine running I assume? Then yes, sounds like the power button is not wired up right.

FYI. Electrical engineer just gave me some input. I guess, the REVERSE signal is in AV 1. The POWER ON is like AV two. IF the camera comes on in reverse...but NOT when you hit the power button. Hit the power button and hit the AV or source button to change the source. I just gave someone a harness today to repair one and they are probably wasting their time.

I’m not sure what needs to be changed.
It’s a simple software program.

When in reverse, camera comes on and display says AV2. When in drive (or park), power button does nothing, AV button does nothing.

He says hit "power", it won't look like it turns on, but it does, then hit AV.

Yes, tried that. Nothing happened. We're going back out Friday and will try again. Otherwise, our service appointment is scheduled for December. Thanks for your assistance.

I've got some additional info as well.

Whenever we have an issue with the back up camera it is one of a few things.

1. If the camera comes on IN REVERSE, but it will not power on its own. Turn the key on. Hit he power button and then hit the AV button to change the source. For whatever reason there is no power light, but if there is no image you need to change that to AV2 or the other source to see it while driving. We have made a correction to this going forward so it should work either way.

2. If it DOES NOT power up AND Does not come on in reverse. The first place to check is the A pillar. There is a 1amp inline glass fuse there.

3.If its not the fuse, check the Yellow RCA cables also in that A pillar area. See attached harness schematic and picture.

4. If it is none of those, then it could be the 10AMP fuse in the harness. I don't think we've ever seen that one blow, but just in case.

Lastly, If not of that is the issue, then maybe the chassis thinks you shouldn't be distracted by a back up camera image and its just looking out for your safety

Brian I tried that method and the mirror does not power up. Only when in reverse or with side blinkers. Do you know if there is a work around to get the mirror power?

Not sure about factory cameras, but I just got this stand-alone one for $70. I wired it to my camper marker light so it comes on with the parking lights instead of the back-up lights. Haven't done an actual road test yet, but worked ok in the driveway. .......for $70 I figured I'd try it. (only 2 wires to hook up on the camera, the monitor plugs into cig lighter... they connect wirelessly)

If it is working in reverse and with side cameras, it has power. So hitting the power button while in drive or park and changing the AV source should do it. If not, then it could be a loose AV connection, thus the yellow wires in the A pillar as shown in the picture.
