The product that started this off topic rant was Happy Camper. It is septic tank friendly so this is another unwarranted comment.

I heard from a dubious source that the bacteria convert human waste into helium. Result is less weight on the tires, hence one can run a lower pressure for a smoother ride.

It also creates methane gas, so never use a candle for a light source when you dump the tank at night.

Or smoke a cigar while dumping septic, as the Grizwalds have shown.

I know I'm going to get blasted for this but. I use bleach and a heavy squirt of dawn. About once a week. But my park model stays I. The same spot all the time. Yes I do use the black tank. Not directly in the sewer.

Fixes to black tank stink

We had and resolved this problem twice. Once in TT and once in 5th wheel. In one case, went on roof and found toilet roof vent had been closed by moron who washed the rig for us. We opened it and problem solved.

In the other case, we read that gunk can build up in parts of the toilet and black tank that don't normally get filled with water to wash it out. So we filled it up with water past the brim...all the way up into the toilet and let set for 24 hours after adding some dawn to loosen all that stuff causing odor. We then drained black tank and wa..la..no more odor!!

Hope this helps!

We use the Geo method - once scoop of Gain laundry detergent and one scoop of Water King Softener. We started out with these in just the black tank but now use this method in the gray and galley tanks, as well.

We had the same problem in our 5th wheel, changed the air admittance valves/vents...fixed! The valve was barely allowing any air back into the rig, but any pressure built up the tanks would force the "gas" into the rig.

Red face Black Tank Smell

I bought a FR travel trailer last year and it came with a sample of a tank deodorizer. I think it was "Three in One."It fizzes and is a toilet bowl cleaner and then you flush and it becomes the tank deodorizer. I've never used a better one than this one, so I ordered a supply of it.

Banjo Bill, I have had the same problem. I tried timing the flush, using good oderiser and plenty of water as Brian has recommended. I haven't checked the 360 vent yet. I still have the smell. I open the window and then close the door quickly so the smell stays in the bathroom. After a while I will go back in and close the window. Annoying...
