Brian question re: Isata 5

I thought I had a bad transfer switch. but instead my 8kw get is not putting out any electrical power. The gen runs perfect. Question, do we have to drop the generator to check the breaker and/orget the gen cover off? Any suggestions what to look for?

Many thanks,
Ragtop

Should be a breaker on the top left (where the hour meter and starter is)

Thanks Fourwhl

The problem is replacing the breaker or anything else like removing the cover. It seems there is not enough room to do anything other than flipping the breaker on or off. I hope Brian has some trick way of getting to it, like maybe from inside the coach. This problem should have been caught by the factory or the dealer before it was sold. It is a camper and campers often need a generator.

The motorhome has to be put on a lift because there is not enough ground clearance to get the generator from under the coach to work on it, it seems. Maybe in the new models the gen could be put on a slide out tray.

To access the hour meter, you would extend the slide and remove the aluminum cover (if its a 36DS). Engineers had to get create to get everything in there on the RAM.

Mine model is the DB. Couch on pass. side and dinette on drivers side in the small slide. Is there a way to access the gen with this model?
Thank you,

There is an access panel/hatch just above.

Thank You Brian

It was at night by the time the tech got to my motorhome and neither of us noticed that small door. Maybe the tech can replace the breaker from within that door, if that is what it is.

Nothing to replace, just flip the switch.

Must be worse than the breaker because have flipped it. Looks like there may be a small round green light under the breaker, if so it does not come on. Wonder if the light tells that the breaker is working?

The breakers on the Onan are notoriously sensitive. As if they are weighted down and can fall due to bouncing, not overload. If the gen is running but you are not getting power, 99% of the time you just have to reset the breaker.

Yea!! Generator Fixed

Got my Isata 5 into the shop so it could be picked up on a lift in order
for the generator to be dropped for inspection. The white wire was not connected coming out of the generator. Therefore, the generator would run great but not produce any electricity.

Back on the road in 3 hours. Also learned what it takes for the 2 magic fans to run. The fan switch on the control panel has to be turned on THEN the red switch on each fan has to be turned on. On mine if I only turn on fan at the panel, the fan tries to open but does not have enough power to open. The second switch provides more elect. power. The tech said that has happened on another motorhome.

So. many thanks to JASON BOOKER the traveling sevice tech with Bankston Motorhomes in Albertville, Al. He is the best!
