Cab noise

This is probably discussed elsewhere but can’t find. My question is what steps does Dynamax take to cutdown on engine noise in the DX3 cab?

I did my own thing by using Dynamat Hood Liner, Dynamat Xtreme Door Kit, and MIT Exhaust Covering (Used on industrial applications)....
Hoodliner under hood in ALL accessible places even the tunnle under cab and over tranny
Hoodliner COMPLETE sheet under cab from front of cab to rear (surprisingly easy)
Dynamat Xtreme - Removed door panels and stuck it straight onto inside of door skin
HD Exhaust Wrap - Wrapped exhaust from Turbo all the way to Exhaust Tip, up to 3" thick flame proof wrap that keeps the heat in the exhaust where it belongs and knocks the noise out of the cab
Custom Made and Freightliner can provide you a drawing to have it made as well, they did for me...

My question would be, are you experiencing high levels of engine noise? I don't see many, if any complaints on engine noise currently.

We do option any insulation that Freightliner offers (690-007 Hood liner insulation with single firewall insulation as well as 772-006, Black mats with single insulation, and 739-034 Premium Insulation). Our floors are 2" thick, filled with block foam, walls are the same.

Brian this brings up a question, the 2" Thick Floors and Walls filled with Block Foam? What are the "R" ratings on these?

True R-value calculations need to take into account glazing area, etc. Most people on the RV side always refers to max R-value of a wall segment. Also, the R-Value changes on the foam based on temperature and again, people seem use the best R-value number even when the temperature range is different. For example, foam might be a better insulator when temps are high and wood might be when temps are low, but they use the MAX value of both.

When I ran this calculation we were running 1.5lbs block foam and we are now running 2lbs block foam. It ends up being about 9.55 max R-value. Varies a little based on the thickness of fiberglass, which can vary.

Engine noise never really bothered me however first time the fan kicked on I thought the thing was about to explode!

I actually like hearing the engine. It isn’t too loud. I agree on the fan, scared the crap out of me. That should be a warning sticker for the first time someone drives one of these units, prepare for the scare.

Our 2018 DX3 is not noisy at all, we can hear the engine a little bit and I like it. Our fan is not too loud when it kicks on, but you can hear it when it does.

Actually, this is a question from a future buyer. We are in the market for a DX3. Always had class A’s before. Our first A was a FRED and when that fan kicked in you couldn’t hear yourself think. I was wondering if the noise was a factor in the DX3. From some comments here so far, it looks like the noise level will be much lower than we’ve experienced before.

Brings up another question, the 450HP Engines with larger radiator and fan as well (I'm sure), wonder what they sound like when they kick on? Probably pretty loud, BUT they may not kick on often due to the radiator capacity advantage and surface area...
I almost changed to a Viscous Clutch Fan for my M2 106, but stayed with the Air Clutched fan...

Gasser or DP? Guessing gas, it should be quieter some probably just based on how much lower the engine will be revvng.

450 m2 112 is not noisy at all, fan can be heard but not often and not so loud as to be an issue

CSWVK - - What did you have to do to get M2-112 into a DX3? My impression was that that chassis was only in the DynaQuest XL.

I think we lucked out and got in at the end of the option. My understanding is they don't do it now. It is a great option, runs really good. We wanted the 36 foot coach which they don't offer in the DYNAQUEST.

We offered it as an option for a bit, before a new corporate software made us unable. Long story....

There are also a couple of m2-112 4x4's out there. That one has been tabled as well.

Just because we can do something, doesn't mean we always should

I understand corporate decisions to streamline options. Actually makes sense and if I were making the decisions I would have done the same. But it was a nice option along with the 4x4. Winter is here in some parts and I would have felt much better with a 4x4
