Cab Sound System

I have come to an end with my modification list, so I am trying to come up with a new one.

My latest thought is the speakers in the cab of the Freightliner. Right now it is hard to hear the speakers and they are pretty small.

I am thinking about adding a subwoofer, amp and two speakers on the underside of the cabover. I found a company called retro pods that makes a surface mounted speaker, 4" 5.5" and a 6x9. any of them would fit.

Just wanted to see if anyone else has done this yet or has an interest in figuring it out.

Aaron

Many of the systems i have built have been 3 channel.
Replace the door speakers and add a subwoofer. Run a 4 channel amp in 3 channel mode. Will sound great.

What are the factory speakers ?

edit.. quick google says they are 5.25.
A nice set of components would work well.

I replaced the factory speakers when I got it. There are only two small speakers in the dash, facing the windshield. I replaced them with a Polk. The only issue is they are too small to carry any sound, plus bouncing off of the windshield doesn't help.

When I use the Apple Car Play, it is hard to hear the person without turning it way up, then when I hang up the radio is way too loud and distorted.

Poopy.. Nothing in the doors eh. I would take it to a stereo shop to have some new door panels built, with a pair of speakers in each door.

that is cool. Need to find one with the storage bin and the speaker. Now I am just getting picky.

I agree with you...miss the storage bin. These show here come in the Sport Chassis.

I'm thinking something similar to you, already replace the two front factory ones, but thinking is putting in a couple more new speakers in the cab, amp, and sub. I have the little love seat behind the passenger seat with nothing under it....was thinking that is the best place to put the sub and amp.

Let me try that again....stupid phone with the little letters.

I'm thinking along the same lines of you. I have also replaced the two front factory ones, but thinking of adding a couple of more somewhere in the cab. I have the little love seat behind the passenger seat with nothing under it...was thinking that is the best place to put the sub and amp.

Retropod makes a surface mount pod, would mount to the flat wood up under the bed, would be above the seat backs. Amp probably wont fit under the seats and I took out the loveseat.

I wonder if sport chassis would sell the door skins? Probably a couple grand.

I was wondering where I saw the speakers in the door. I wonder if those panels can be adapted to the M2 chassis.

I think there's just as much, if not more, to be gained by doing soundproofing in the cab area as upgrading the speakers. I was just looking at some of the current players in the soundproofing game over the weekend. Last time I did this on my 4Runner I was able to get a 5dB noise reduction at 70MPH. Huge difference.

The problem with the RV is that I don't really want to remove the dash and everything to do it right. Honestly, it's too much work for me with family and work obligations. It's on my list for when I get time.

I just ripped everything out of my JKU and did the second skin sound deadening kit. 1st I applied the liquid, then I put down "rattle trap" self adhesive mats to not only help with sound but also heat, then on top of that put the mats that come with the second skin kit. It has helped with sound and basically eliminated the heat.

Was contemplating something similar here....just wouldn't remove the seats but rather work around them.

Are there any updates on the cab stereo upgrades??
To change the dash speakers do you remove the front dash then remove the top dash pad? How much time did it take?
Thanks

I updated the stereo head unit and the dash speakers ,remove the dash and the dash top, the speakers are pretty easy to reach.

I changed the speakers to 3 way Kenwood and added a Kenwood in dash unit with a dash cam.
