Cabinets

The cabinets over the sofas, the ones that lift up vs swing out, are they supposed to stay up themselves? None of mine do and it is a pain to try to hold them open while your trying to load them or get things out.

I only have one cabinet door like that on my Isata 3, but I installed an arm to hold the door open while I load or unload the cabinet.

Something like the attached, but I found it at my local hardware store.

You can purchase cabinet struts, they aren't difficult to install.

The simplest way to hold up the cabinet door is with a spring in compression that gets straight when the door is open.

To close simply tap the spring out of line and the door closes.

RV or boat stores , cheap too!

Replace the hinges. They have a thin rivet in them, it snaps off and will not hold up the door anymore. I replaced about three.

If you only knew how many conversations we've had about this. Long story, we had exposed hinges that held the doors open, but we had everything else as hidden hinges. Someone said they got complaints that the exposed did not look good, so we found some "hold open" hidden hinges. Well, they hold open a vertical door, not a horizontal door. The issue with struts, is if you install one, they can torque/shift the door over time. If you put two on to stop that, they slam hard...plus most are plastic and people think plastic is cheap. So, we found a new spring loaded hidden hinge, but the mounting point is too deep, we have to add a cleat.

So, its not being cheap, just trying to accommodate everyone's complaints and sometimes, if its not broken, we just need to explain why we do what we do before we decide to change. and just create a new complaint.

Thanks everyone....likes like there are some options all with pros and cons. I might try the spring option FFred mentions.

The "spring option" has the advantage that one must use their hand to push the spring from straight to close .

Since ones hand is there the cover closes as you remove the hand , quiet , safe and no learning process for guests.
