Can someone help me out with some of the acronyms used around here?

The first ones that come to mind are DW & DH. But there are others that I have seen so please feel free to post those that might be less obvious to those of us who are relatively new to the forum.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Tech Tech

We used to use TLA - Three Letter Acronym

for instance - Whats USA? Its a TLA

pretty useless but often appropriate - ciao - peter

Actually most of these letters are not acronyms at all. They are abbreviations. DW or FWT are abbreviations made of letters and are pronounced as separate letters not as a word. We don't say (fawat) for FWT, we sat F-W-T. Same is true of F-B-I.
We don't say "feebie," we say each letter: F-B-I.
Acronyms are letters which are pronounced as a word, like PITA (Pee-tah) or NASA (Nah-suh). When you say just letters (such as T-L-A). It's an abbreviation not an acronym at all.

Use of Acronyms can be condescending

I am fairly new to these forums, I feel it is really rude to use Acronyms without spelling them out first especially when it is apparent that question(s) come from new people.

Before responding to my comment, understand that its the way "I" feel.

That's quite alright. It takes some getting used to. My wife DESPISES the terms DW and DH. So I refer to her as wife or wifey, she's ok with that. To each their own. By the way (notice no acronym) welcome to the forum! I'm an sob (some other builder) member but I find this forum to be the most active and educational. Enjoy!

Unfortunately this is how all internet forums operate now. Acronyms are very common, in many people's lives, especially in the work world. Even way before the Internet came along.
We at least have a sticky here, that defines most RV forum acronyms. All the other forums I belong to, don't have anything like that.

X2, and I'm not trying to be condescending at all to those whose feathers it ruffles, it is just how today's internet forums work.

If you spend any time on internet forums (I visit a couple dozen) you'll soon find other letters you DON'T want to know what they mean. (NFF = not family friendly)

You're not the first to have this same idea. It's just that we are a forum with over 100,000 members and we get dozens more each and every day. It's just not feasible to have everyone spell out each and every abbreviation that they use. Especially when they have no idea the experience level of the person they are responding to.

Just because someone is a newbie here doesn't mean they don't have years of experience on other online forums.

Wife is only 2 more letters than DW, and you don't have to hit the cap key.

What ruffles my feathers is talking about a truck when one writes TV. I always thought, and still do, that one is talking about a television, at least that what TV has been the last 65 years!
