Cape Henlopen
Anyone at Cape Henlopen today?
Looks like my day at the beach started just after 5 PM. Got a late start then two different accidents had the road closed for awhile.

Have never camped there. I only live 40 minutes away. Wife works in that town.

I was not at the camp ground. We made a day trip to the beach section.
Nice beach and kept clean.
Good facilities including bath house plus outdoor showers and a food service spot. All sorts of other stuff to do, too much to list at this time.
Plenty of parking for cars and I always have lots of room for my motorhome.
I went to Atlantic City most of my life and I like it there, one of the few. But tolls on AC Xway and bridges across Delaware River had me wondering about the Delaware beaches.
Toll on Route 1 is a Dollar each way and no bridge tolls from PA.
It takes a little longer and probably another 25 miles esch way but usually an easy, enjoyable drive.
Today I paid $2.45 for gas near home and $2.15 down there.
We will make it our usual beach.

Not the case. There are 2 toll booths each direction. It's $1 per toll for a car at each toll both during the week. Weekend are $3 starting at 7pm on Friday till 11pm on Sunday. Even more of course with a trailer. $4.50 x 2 each direction with a 2 axle trailer.

I just checked my EZPass transactions and now see the two $1.00 tolls each way. thanks for the correction.
I don't know why but they only hit me for a $1.00 toll on a Friday night.

DW and I done Camp Hosting at Cape Henlopen this Summer. We enjoyed ourselves very much. Some sites are small for campers, but for the most part good sized. Totally redone campground with a lot of new things here also.

I wanted to take a ride through the camp area when I was there for the beach to see if you were there. I didn’t realize you were hosting. Guard at the entrance told me I had to pay extra to go there and my wife was in a hurry to get on the beach.

Fond Memories
Slightly off topic, I'd almost forgotten about the place. I was present for the Grand Opening of that campground. A "Riviera/Nimrod" popup camper. At the time it was pretty primitive, just the WW2 era steel runway grating for roads and RV parking, I don't remember electric, separate water etc. My parents 3 siblings and a college exchange student, Helmut(?), from Germany (won the "coming from the farthest away award"). I think I still have pics somewhere. Thanks for the spark/motivation, I'll have to take the DW and visit the place again.

Ahh, you jogged my memory also. If I recall correctly the Delaware State Parks passes for 2018 went on sale this week. I will have to check the website.

Bobby, message me a mailing address and I can send you one. We were given a free one and won’t need it.

You should go. They just finished a 1.5 million dollar renovation. Really nice.

I've not camped there but I was stationed at Fort Miles in the summer of 1971. Went back to visit a couple years ago but the park was full. I'll have to try again.

The park pass came in today’s mail.
Much appreciated and my best wishes to all the good people of Alabama.
Thanks,
