Charging Question for 2019 Isata 5

Does anyone know if the house batteries are charged while the RAM engine is running? Question is; if I want full power for the batteries while operating the Jacks and the Slideout motors is running the engine enough power for the operation? No need for Generator or shore power.

Depends. as with anything...charging is not"automatic". There is logic built in to prevent overcharging batteries.

So to answer a different question "will the Ram engine charge my house batteries" and the answer to that is, yes.

A more precise question is "is the Ram engine charging my batteries all the time" the answer to that is no.

The BIRD is what determine is the batteries need to be latched in order to charge and that is based on various things.

IF, the chassis batteries are fully charged and the house batteries are fully charged...then no. It will likely not be charging as the solenoid will not be latched.

So if not on shore or generator power, and with the RAM engine running, I run the risk of operating large AMP draw pumps and motors w/o sufficient battery support? So if no shore power always run the Genset if operating the slides/jacks? Or just look at the battery gauge and if it says 13 to 14 volts I can operate everything on battery power alone?

Only the chassis batteries run through the BIRD...but even shore power/gen will have a charging algorithm. I would say look at the battery gauge.

Lippert puts that restriction, assuming that if the batteries are low and you have the chassis running, the alternator will be charging. There is a bit of a time lapse so, so I don't think it is foolproof.

I was just reading the 2017 (latest online I could find) Lippert pdf and they seem quite insistent that the shore power or generator be on and the vehicle engine be off when operating the high amp draw(?) of the levelers andslides. I just trying to understand. How those things work.

I did find this in the Power Gear manual provided by Dynamax with my purchase:

Installation & Service Manual Slim Rack In-Wall Slide Out System Control Box Part Number 1510000199

Prior to moving the slide out room:

• Make sure the engine or generator is running to ensure ample voltage is being supplied to the slide out system motors.
• Set the parking brake.

Extending the room:

1. The engine or generator must be running, or plugged into shore power.
2. Transmission must be in park or neutral (if applicable).
3. Set the park brake (if applicable) and level the unit.
4. If equipped, remove the transit bars.
5. If equipped, turn “on” the on/off switch or key.
6. Press and hold the OUT button (FIGURE 12, page 4). There will be a slight delay before the room will begin to move, this is normal.
7. Release the button when the room is fully extended and stops moving.
8. If equipped, turn “off” the on/off switch or key.

So based on the note in the Power Gear manual BC, the presumption by Power Gear's is that if the engine is running the up fitter (Dynamax) has the coach wired so that the alternator is feeding the slide motors or is charging the coach batteries? And you do that through the BIRD?

The bird will open, after the chassis battery reaches a fully charged state.
Connecting the house and chassis batteries together.
