Chasing Unicorns (Dynamax Dynaquest XL 37BH)
Where do you guys find your RV's? We're looking for a new or recent year used Dynamax Dynaquest XL 37BH with Cab over Bunk option. Apparently there aren't many of these out there as we have only been able to find two by looking on RVT.com, RVTrader.com, & ebay. One at MHSRV and one at VanCityRV. Where / how else does one find these or do they just not exist?
Thanks,
Rob

We’re getting ready to buy a new Sabre. We have gone to 3, large rv show in the last 2 months, mostly to get a good read on the different layouts, and to get a good feel of the materials quality. We’re really overwhelmed by how many different rv’s there are out there.
Perhaps you might get a 2nd choice that might be just as nice?

Teresa, yes, there is a dizzying array of amazing RV's and options out there these days. We've been looking for a couple years, seriously for 6 months. We've narrowed it down to this model for a number of reasons. There are similar ones like DX3 or renegade valencia or the very expensive high end Renegades or ShowHaulers but they are all lacking something we want. Usually horespower, too long, don't sleep enough or are too expensive. So we are kinda stuck with this one. But, if we can't find any (at a reasonable price, as others have said, MHSRV is really proud of their units). We'll have to look at plan B. My wife, the accountant, has been noting that for the price of the RV, we could take a lot of first class trips! Still a flight and a hotel and a rental car is a whole different kettle of fish than RV'ing it! We might have to consider a class A

MHS as you have mentioned
Not all dealers advertise on RV Trader. If you are concurred about MHS pricing, it will be tough to find what you are looking for in new. They are normally pretty competitive.

We have the DX3 version of what you’re looking for. Having gone through a very similar search, I’ll offer a couple of comments:
1. If you are waiting for one to show up on a dealer’s lot (vs placing a custom order) be ready to jump on it quickly...they typically don’t last long.
2. Again, if you’re looking to buy a new one, my experience echoes Brian’s comments above...you’re not going to find one much/any cheaper than MHSRV.

And, finding good used late model versions is like finding a unicorn. We planned on ordering new and just wanted to see one before placing the order. Brian tried to help out with locating units in stock, which we were willing to fly to in order to see one. But as quickly as we called they told us they were gone, sold and delivered.
Luckily, an owner in the Denver area posted on this forum that he was taking his unit to the dealer for some routine service work. I IM'd him to see if it was OK for us to look inside his unit at the dealer, thast how we managed to see one first.

Brian,
Thanks very much for the list but I think the computer looked up "DX3 37BH" w/cab over bunk option vs the "XL 37BH". Does your computer show any dealers that have the Dynaquest XL with Cab over bunk option?
Thanks,
Rob

Also, why is the "cab over bunk" not more popular?! Who doesn't want to have the extra space for guests and/or storage?

I see the clear external difference between cab over bunk (COB) or not but what is your point? The appearance, the added benefit of an automatic windshield sun visor, the aerodynamics and miles per gallon?

Aerodynamics, wind noise, entertainment center are all more important to us than a bed well never use. Cab area feels much more open. Still haven't filled all the other storage....

Heard there is more wind noise, we have the bunkhouse, so plenty of sleeping when needed. And actually used more than we thought Don't care for the more closed in cockpit feel with the cabover, and mostly for us, we just love the look of the "no" cabover.

Yes, the non-COB's look a little better. And if we were a couple, sans kids, we might go sans COB, but with young teens and a tween, and a big dog, not to mention friends, cousins, guests, we need all the room we can get.
Test drove a DX3 w/COB and a Renegade Verona LE w/o COB. I didn't notice a difference on wind noise but wasn't listening for it either.
Still, the less people like the COB's, the better pricing I may be able to get.
Is shooting for 27-28% off the unicorn msrp ok?
What did you guys save off MSRP on your DX3 or XL ?

Right there with ya...3 girls 15 and below. The COB was a requirement for us. I think you’ll find that 27-28% will get the deal done at MHSRV.

Unicorn Caught
We just put money down on a 2019 loaded XL 37BH with COB. It doesn't exactly exist yet but should be at the dealer in the next week or two. I think we paid a smidge too much at 28% off MSRP but at least it's done and we got our unicorn.
Here's hoping it is a good one.
Now that we have the unicorn, where are the rainbows? (No, not the SanFrancisco type)

Just so you know, we're building more Cab-Over-Bunk XL's that non right now. The XL never offered the COB before...now that we do it is in much greater demand, just for the reasons you say (kids and guests).
I only mention that because earlier you thought you might get a better deal for a cab-over if "less people liked it".
I think the opposite is true. I do agree, the non, looks better, but the practical nature of the cab-over wins out. Maybe for 2021 we'll re-tool that cabover to mimic more of the 5 series.

What would that entail...just integrating it more seamlessly with the rest of the coach? I've never really paid attention to or noticed the differences...
