Dinette slide out on 37BH

Dinette slide was out for 9 days. Went to put in and it went into fault.
Did what the manual says and tried to re set fault. no luck. Then went to
step two (manual override) and found that the aft brake rubber boot was full of rusty water and that the brake had frozen. It would not disengage electrically or manually. Had to take off the brake and then do the override.

FYI: You need two people and two 3/4 sockets/ratchets to do the job.
It took about 15 min to bring in the slide. Had one and now need to add another to the tool box.

Think the water is coming from rear axle spray. Any suggestions on how
to stop the spray?. Its the motor above the generator

What your saying is a very good possibility. I'll have to look at mine when I get home . I'll tell you something else, wheel spray will send water up though those insulating panels underneath too.. yes, they have a sheet of barrier between them and the floor but I'm not convinced its working 100%. Just replaced rear bath floor that was completely rotted out. Water didn't come from topside I dont think.. it came from underneath "somewhere" . 2015 DX3. I fixed a rear cap leak that may have contributed to it but not sure. I suggest everyone pay attention to this wheel spray... theres more to it than meets the eye.. I have voids undeneath everywhere I'm in the process of addressing. My barrier was rotted really ... food for thought.

Yes, I read your posts about the leak. Hope you got it fixed.

I will post pictures tomorrow of the rubber boot that covers the break, and the rusty break and the motor and the gear box.

Here are the pictures of the dinette slide out motor.

Left photo is the rubber boot that covers the brake and motor end.
had water and rust in it.

right photo is the motor and brake assembly. brake rusted in the engaged
position and would not release.

How is water getting in there??

I am going to fabricate inner fenders out of HDPE plastic sheets for the wheel wells. When I look above my rear tires there is nothing there except rusted steel frame work and silver insulation. Most of the steel and all of the insulation in between the steel under my entire RV have no coating on them, no paint, no undercoating, nothing.

Above my tires look pretty good, However in the generator compartment and where this motor is, there are two rectangle opening just about the same height as this motor, think splash is coming thru there and getting on the motor.

It happened Sunday morning while trying to leave. Check your motor and make sure it is not rusted up.

We could not make it up Saturday night, but we will get together soon.

slide motor sits over top of generator. So, kneeling down and there is about a foot of space between top of generator and slide motor. You can get to it. 4, 1/4x 20 bolts gear box assembly with motor and brake to slide gears.
Suggest everyone to check theirs for rust and water damage

Brake was rusted "engaged" and would not open electrically (inside switch)
or manually (brake release lever) I had to take brake off of motor so I could spin the gears for the manual over ride. It is an electric brake and it was shorted out. Water got in the boot and went into the brake.

Thanks for the information. I'm going to make some modifications to protect this area. Not sure just what yet but will look it over closely.

Thought I would post an update to this thread:

Replaced slide motors and reprogramed. All is well.

To stop water/moisture from splashing up on top of generator and on to

the slide motor. Here are some pictures how we covered the two openings,

with alum sheet, so as not to rust. One picture is from inside the wheel well

and the other is from inside the generator compartment. Hope this helps.
