DISH SAT Manual SW upgrade
Just in the last month we saw our DISH SAT system start doing strange things. Mostly it would align and capture signal upon initiating like normal, but then it would start popping random messages about loss of signal, or prompting you to search for the remote. And this was in areas we had parked before with a clear view of the sky and never had problems before.
2 weeks later it got stranger when it would pop up a message on certain movie channels saying "the Illinois Legislature has voted on XYZ" (couldnt see the rest of the language.)
Anyways, we got an email from DISH this week saying they had discovered an issue impacting service to users of the outdoor DISH service and it requires a manual SW update. The instruction then go on to tell you how to do it. So if you were having these issues and didn't get the DISH email, go to their website.

Haha Illinois lawmakers are even making people's lives outside the state miserable. It's pretty impressive really

We have been dealing with Dish issues too. In late April they downloaded a software update to all Wally receiver users. Turns out it had a bug that affected all users with an in-motion dome, which includes ours. On May 21st they came out with a new update ( version U802). After numerous attempts, we finally were able to download this version yesterday. Last night for the first time in a month we were able to watch TV normally.

I’m having the same issue but can’t get update U-802? When I go to the update screen it says I’m on U-801 the latest update available.
Dish support can’t get the update pushed to me for some reason! They have been of ZERO help even when they admit the issue can only be solved by the update.

Man, I feel for you. The whole situation is really a pain. Let me go into more detail on how I got the problem resolved.
After the email from Dish on 5/21/19 telling me that the 802 download was available I tried to follow their process with no luck. I then tried three more times while on the phone with a Dish tech with no luck. Following their directions on two nights we left the receiver in standby mode overnight, which should allow it to update automatically, but no luck.
I finally got them to send out a Dish tech to my RV yesterday. He tried the normal download procedure with no luck. He then connected a large oval 3-LNB home style dish to my receiver and repeated the process with no luck. He made numerous phone calls and tried several other methods, but all with no luck. Finally after over 4 hours of trying he replaced my Wally receiver with a new one, which came preloaded with an old version of the software (4.21?). After it was activated, we put it in standby mode, and within 15 minutes it started downloading the 802 version. This took about 45 minutes, but since it finished downloading at about 10:00 last night, the system has been working very well.
Near as I can tell, the bug in the 801 version of the software on my original Wally receiver somehow kept the 802 version from downloading. It seems that Dish has a fix for the receiver operation problem (the 802 version), but still have a problem downloading the fix to the Wally receiver.
One thing I did learn is that the updates come from the 119 satellite. Channel 171 (Nickelodean) comes from that satellite. So every evening you should change to channel 171, and put your Wally into the standby mode by pressing the receiver power button on your remote. On the front of the Wally, no lights should be on on. This will let any updates come through without needing to move the dish inside the dome on your RV roof.
You might also check the time set in your Wally to look for updates. I think that this is found on the menu under "Settings" and then "Power". It should be set for sometime in the middle of the night. I you have a DVR you should be sure that it will not try to record anything during this timeframe as well.
All told I probably have invested over 20 hours over the past month in attempts to resolve the issue. My suggestion is that you call Dish every day, ask for a manager in the tech support department, and push hard for them to solve your issue.

Thanks much for your detailed helpful post. I have set my receiver as you suggest and eventually the update should show up.
I think I will give this several nights before trying to deal with Dish support again. :blowup

Wife and I have the same problem . We have called so many times , I'm thinking about 20 times which amounts to 1 1/2 hr per call . Trying everything they wanted never worked right . We would be veiwing a show and 004 error push channel change button back to program , 5 seconds later 004 on and on and on . Phone call after phone call . Still no change . A good lawyer may have a tort suit here . I understand that about 2000 rv ers are having this problem . The u801 has a bug in the software that will not allow the new u802 software to install . Five times with a tech on the phone / supervisor 2 times , sorry we will be working on the problem he says . Well we paid good money for our so called tv service . I'm ready to go back to Direct TV . Had for 5 years never a problem , we left because price was getting to high ( 110.00 ) and could not get our locals camping 50 miles from home .

We had that problem a month ago and the tech spent 4 hours doing the update.
My Wally did an update this morning on my fixed antenna. Thanks for the heads up. I'll try the Sat antenna next.

My system has now been working perfectly for 2 1\2 days, since they replaced the Wally and it downloaded the 802 update.
Fred+Sally, did you get your new Wally since May 21st when the 802 update was released? If not it would have downloaded the 801 update and be useless.
Knowing what we now know, if my system were still not working I would add a new Wally from Dish. Once it downloaded the 802 version and was working properly I would then cancel the old Wally. Probably the fastest (and maybe only) way to start enjoying Dish rather than be fighting with Dish.

I worked with Dish all day yesterday, still no joy. I've tried the 802 update numerous times and the Wally just hangs up. I'm going to insist on a new unit with proper SW or I'm going to cancel the service.

post #10 in the link below describes how he fixed the download. Dish said the same thing to bring the Wally to dealer and have them hook it up to fixed dish and do the download.

Tried that this morning.....My fixed Dish couldn't get U-802 to download. I have a Service Tech coming Friday and he can address the issue.

Well I spoke to a representative/supervisor today well guess what , she is sending us a 211k receiver ( no charge) we will see if things get better signal . I asked for a tech to come to the house and see if he could get my Wally to download 802 , well the first person I spoke to said there techs do not and will not work on RV systems ( Wally's) he said we would have to pay for the service even though we have $9.99 insurance a month . It only covers the house . No RV stuff ???????
I purchased the Wally from dish for my motorhome ???? No work for my RV . We will see how the 211k works . Found out that Wally's have problems if the 3sat 110, 119, 129. If one sat has low signal .. 004+015a on off thing . After all this l may become a dish tech . Ha ha . Wish us luck with the 211k.

I have not updated my Wally to the 8.02 update and have not had any issues. I think the 211K is more robust than the Wally but bear in mind that the 211K remote is IR not RF if this might be an issue for your RV installation. I would connect and set up the 211K at home prior to RV install.

This weekend, I tried to get my Wally to update from 801 to 802. It kept saying most up to date and wouldn't start downloading.
In the past I've had some issues with this unit not wanting to lock into seats, etc. I have probably run it thru 2 or 3 other factory resets to clear it up. So went the extreme route and took it to factory reset. After it reset it was at SW802. Left it overnight turned off and the next morning it did a reboot and is now upto U802.
I run it at home on a tailgater we had from our old unit. Still need to see if it plays nice with the winegard.
Never been impressed with Dish online or phone techs.

Well the Dish Technician couldn't get my Wally to update.....even tried my home Dish and got the same results.
He called Dish...while I was standing here scratching my head...they are sending me a new Wally to my home. I will also add the WiFi adapter 218111 to the new unit so Dish can monitor the activation.
I really have little hope this will be a final solution unless they ship the Wally with U802 already installed.
