DX3 and Towing 10k LBS plus
I've been doing some research on the DX3 and its definitely got me interested. I sold my Haulmark earlier this year and have been looking to upgrade into a Renegade on the M2-112 chassis with the Detroit DD13 diesel.
The DX3 in the 36FK floorplan with the 8.9L Cummins looks like it might work for me, I do occasionally tow a 24' stacker with an 18k GVW that is loaded to about 16k LBS. It would be 4-5 times per year max, from So Cal to Reno, Texas, or Moab. What is everyone's consensus that tows heavily? Should I bite the bullet and buy a bigger coach? The trailer weighs 8k lbs empty BTW.
My Haulmark had a 300 HP C7 Cat that was an absolute dog on the hills and was similar in size to the 36FK.

FWIW you can option the DX3 up to a M2-112 chassis and get an extra 100 HP and 1000 ft-lbs of torgue out of the ISL
I've only towed about 8k so far, but I can't even tell its back there.
I doubt you'll be disappointed either way, but the 112 will be a little nicer in the mtns.

Wouldn't it be 1250 torque in the 112?

The M2-112 gets you 450hp and 1250 ft lbs of torque for quite a bit less than the DD13. Plus, the DD13 causes us to lose a storage space. I've had zero complaints on the Dynaquest XL with the M2-112 and we have some guys towing 20k.

Since you brought it up.
So, you can option the dd13 in a dx3 ?
What is the price to step to the 112?
How about the 13spd eaton auto shift?
What is the price jump?
Why do you loose a storage space?

nope. We looked into it. I think the price was another $15k maybe. The way the exhaust is run it goes into that first storage box, so we have to pull it.

But the shortest Dynaquest I can get is roughly 39' correct?
My trailer is just under 30' total length so I need a coach that is around 35-36' to keep me around 65' for California. I was trying to avoid getting a shorter trailer and I want something that isn't too big for national parks and whatnot.

We've talked about taking the smaller floor plans up into the XL or optioning the 112 chassis on the DX3. Nothing in concrete yet.

You may have to look at the Isata 5.

It won't tow what I need.
Roughly what does a DX3 in the 36FK floorplan weigh?
Here is a picture of my old setup. 316" Wheelbase, coach weighed 22,500 empty, 33,000 GVWR and 66,000 GCVWR.

Ok so my 2015 DX3 is rated at 350/1000 if you have 1150 I'm jealous.
