I have a similar problem, but mine is that the step does not retract with the switch off, door closed and ignition on. Step works in all other scenarios...help.
I checked all fuses in the vehicle part of my 2008 e450 Ford chassis with the forest river Lexington 283GTS. Can't find any inline fuses

You can check out the motor by applying 12vdc across the two pins on the motor, reverse the leads for each direction.

Thanks, but that isn't the problem...the problem is that the step works in every scenario except with the door closed, switch in off position (as it should be), and the ignition engaged, the step doesn't retract.

I have bypassed the yellow wire from the battery to the 4 pin connector and the step retracts and deploys regardless of the position of the switch, because it has constant power to it.

Yes , I just like to make sure that motor is good in both directions, I too just had my steps fail and after doing some troubleshooting have ordered a controller. It should be here in a day or two.

The ignition input should retract the steps with the door closed no matter the switch position (ON or OFF). The steps should always deploy when the door is opened no matter switch position and even with ignition input. If your steps are LIppert the door switch is a normally closed switch. If the steps are Kwikee the door switch is a normally open switch. The door switch for both systems supplies a ground to the step controller when closed. The screen door magnet actuates the door switch to OPEN or CLOSED as applicable when the door is closed.

Still cannot find the inline fuse. Have tested and retested entire system several times. Cannot get an answer from Forest River as to best place to look for an inline fuse.

"the step does not retract with the switch off, door closed and ignition on. Step works in all other scenarios...help."
So you are saying that the steps retract with the door open and the ignition on?
If that is the case, I am not sure it would be a fuse...as the ignition side is working as it should, other than when the door is closed and then that would lead me to suspect the steps control board

Ordered my Kwikee Motor Replacement from amazon. Removed the motor from my step first and compared the measurements from the several available because none of my part numbers matched due to motor upgrade/date. There are several that look exactly the same in the picture. Very happy with the replacement I received and a fraction of the price the dealer wanted. Found it to be an easy install/replacement.

Am I the only one that thinks the finish on the kwikie steps is sub par?
They all seem to flake and rust after a short period.
Plan to disassemble mine and coat it with STEEL-IT to prevent the rust.

Our unit has 4 seasons under it and the steps look like new. But we do not travel in the winter on salted roads, that could be the difference ?

Mine started to misbehave in the rain. The steps would work in reverse or come out while I was driving. Went to the dealer for a fix and the same thing happened again. Took them to the dealer after warranty and was told the motor is burnt out and they are not very good anyway, I should replace them. When I took the motor off there was water damage inside. They are not the most sturdy step but I am not quite 200lbs so they are fine for me.
