Extended Service Warranties

How many of you purchased either a dealer Extended Service Warranty or an aftermarket? We had one on the Force, was pretty cheap and never used it. I may get another one for after the Dynamax warranty runs out.

But I was wondering about buying one direct on my own and skipping the dealer, I figure they have a markup on the warranty through them.

Any suggestions, thoughts?

Put your money in the bank (cost of the warranty) you will more than likely come out ahead.

I'm not a fan of extended warranties (insurance policy really). If you're going to do it I'd definitely do it on your own and not whichever brand the dealer chooses. That way you can comparison and price shop.

I did quite a bit of research when we first got ours. Best piece of advice I read was: "Wait out your factory warranty, if you end up using it quite a bit you may have gotten a unit that was built on Friday afternoon before a holiday. If that's the case an extended warranty is probably a good idea. If however you make it through the warranty period (2 years in our case so even longer to shake it out) the likelihood that something is going to go wrong during years 2-7 is really not all that great."

When pricing extended warranties I seem to recall they all go around 5 years or so, after that I can only imagine the price skyrockets as that's when things are more likely to start to go wrong.

We're down to our last 6 mo of warranty and things have really smoothed out. I likely wont be buying one.

Extended Service Warranties

Good points. I was going to hold out since I didnt use it on the Force, they are refunding most of the money. More money down on the next unit. Wohoo

I bought the Good Sam Extended Service Plan. The one time I needed, it paid for itself for the year's cost.

The second time I needed it, I found they don't cover frame damage. Their reason is that is typically due to road impacts and therefore should be covered by the vehicle's insurance. Unfortunately for me, I had non-impact frame damage. I didn't pursue Good Sam ESP any further with this incident.

I'm fixing to need it again as my slide outs are causing me hassles. Hopefully they don't get me on it being related to the frame damage. We'll see.

But like Oaklevel said- these are typically a win for the warranty providers and rarely a win for the purchaser. It's a gamble. You have to decide which side of the fence you land on.

I have read many times people have gotten the plans and would get a refund if unused or have the issue covered if a problem arose... A problem arose (or they did not use it) and it turned out the backing company was not in business any more. I think they run they companies like Ponzy Schemes and they take your money, go out of business and open as a new Inc and you get screwed out of your money.

Paid $1400 for a 6 or 7 year extended warranty. Think it will pay for itself with all those years.

Got one for our class A. Never used what we paid, didn't get one this time, especially since the finance person really pushed us to get it. If they're doing that it's benefiting them, not you.

Same here, got one on my last but not this time for same reason. I subscribe to FOURWHL's philosophy.

We bought one when we bought the coach at dealer. Seemed like a good idea until got home and looked at manufacturer's warranty and compared prices with other companies. Dealer was approx. 2x in price for coverage with most of the first 2 years coverage by Dynamax. There normally is a full refund before 30 days if you do not use it. It took several calls to the dealer but was able to cancel at no cost.

I decided to go with put the money in the bank and pay for it yourself for the first 2 years. Will look again after 2 years.

I priced outside warranties, Good Sam, wholesale, etc... they were around 5k to 7k for 6-7 year warranties with 100-200 deductibles. The dealers at 2900.00 for 6 years has zero deductible if I get the work done there or 50.00 everywhere else. Have to see how it plays out.

We had a 5 year platinum XtraRide extended warranty. Over it's life it definitely paid for itself ($2250 I believe). It covered everything except consumables, like tires. We didn't have to have periodic checkups and never had a claim turned down. We just paid our $50 deductible and that was it. Would we do it again? I haven't decided. Our cost for repairs was just several hundred over the cost of the policy and deductibles. But it was a good experience, unlike what most folks claim with their extended warranties.

Still deciding on a warranty. Bought our used 2016 in June. The factory warranty is still in force until December. The dealer wanted us to buy their warranty for $12,000 dollars. Crazy stuff.
