First Trip: Hot Water Heater Won't Stay Lit
Well, we took our new Force HD out to a local State Park. Everything is working fine except for the hot water heater. It lights but the igniter keeps clicking and it goes out...like it can't detect the flame.
When I took the cover off the water heater switch is in the Off position (unchanged from delivery). I turned on the switch inside. Do both switches need to be On?
Any help would be appreciated.
PS: The water heater is not on bypass. I checked that.

the one on the wh needs to be on for the electric to work. the one inside is for propane. Do you have water pressure on the rig? if not neither will work and you will burn up your electric heater.
Stupid ... but is your propane turned on. Maybe a cobweb in the propane nozzle , blow it out with a drinking straw.

On my DX3 the switch outside turns on the electric element. I wish there was a switch inside for that also but there's not. So if yours is the same as mine and you are plugged in to shore power then you should be making hot water with electric if the switch is on. Just remember to tun the switch off if you drain the tank, if the tank doesn't have water in it and you plug in to shore power with the switch on you will burn out the element.

Are you getting propane to the stove burners?? I light the stove burners first to get gas to the burners turn them off. Then light the water heater. This ensures that gas is in the lines.

Thanks all.
Propane is on. All other propane appliances working (heat, stove, outside grill).
Shore power is on (50 AMP).
Tank is filled with water. If I flip the relief valve water comes gushing out.
Note: It ignites, but won't stay lit. The igniter keeps clicking and it goes out.
I turned on the electric element and the water doesn't seem to be getting hot that way either. Maybe the element turned on with no water prior to delivery? Either way I should be getting hot water.

It sounds like the igniter goes through its normal start up, lights the flame but doesn't know that the flame is lit and then does what its suppose to do, and that is cut off propane and locks out. Bad thermo-coupler? Still, electric should work.

It the above is true try checking for loose electrical connections around the igniter/chamber area. If the electric heater isn't working I suspect these are related - bad electrical connection somewhere/fuse/breaker.

The breaker for the water heater isn't tripped.

Do you have a voltage tester to check if the electric element is actually getting power? If not, you should be able to hear the element sizzle as it's heating the water, assuming you can get close enough to the w heater. My w heater takes a good 30 minutes to heat 10 gallons for a shower.

First Trip: Hot Water Heater Won't Stay Lit
If you're certain the wires are firmly connected to the w/h then it Has to be either a bad element, bad breaker or a wire has come loose from the breaker. Propane side is a mystery to me too. Pretty weird that neither system will function. My 5th wheel has a switch on the w/h and another on the wall inside for the electric side. You said you checked for two switches and found only one?

So, if you want to use the electric function, you have to go outside to turn it on? Or actually get to the wh switch?
If I didn't have a switch on the wall, I'd have to go outside to turn it on.

Yes. The switch for electric is on the WH itself. The switch for the propane is inside on the control panel next to the water pump switch.

Opps! I should have said your WH is "usually" plugged into an outlet!!
Apparently this unit is supposed to be hard wired...
Your water heater is actually plugged into an outlet in the rear.
It's not un-common for a new rig to arrive with the WH
unplugged!! Do what ever you need to access the rear of the WH and
make sure it is plugged in!! Also if it is plugged in test the outlet to be
sure it's got power. Plug in anything temporarily to test the outlet.
The burner not staying lit is a warranty issue but the electric side should
be working.
Good luck!

Who is the dealer again?
This is ridiculous. If it is those wires, I've already emailed my guys to find out what in the heck is going on. Now first off, I would not try to dismiss blame, it is ours. I have talked here about loading up propane, but as an industry, no one thinks its a good idea. If a dealer wants to put the unit in a show, the propane has to be drained. Transport drivers would be more tempted to use the unit. This is why the dealer is supposed to do a full PDI. It should be full of water and propane and everything should be verified working. So first off, I will be having a conversation with the dealer. 2nd, if we know it is a retail sold coach, I have already been working on a more thorough PDI that can be done here by us. We have lots of testing procedures (pressure, electrical, leak, etc) but those are mainly the separate systems.
