As the registered owner of the RV, even with air brakes, regardless of weight you only need a regular driver's license. It's considered non commercial. That's about the only break of any type we get in NJ.

My brake lights do not come on with the exhaust brake. If I remember right you have a setting for that in the ECM that you can turn them on with the engine brake.

A setting in the ECM? Does that mean we have to go to the dealer or is it something we can access ourselves?

Hummmmm I too will have to see about the brake lights coming on. My switch is on or off dont have a low or high setting(2013 model).Light on dash little engine symbol. Leave mine on at all times, saving brake pads was my reasoning. And because its quiet I dont worry about the small towns signs saying, no jake brakes. I figure that was for the original old loud ass jakes.

Mark a dealer would have to go into the ECM and turn off/on the brake lights with the engine brake.

When traveling in mountain county, a lot lately, I use the high setting of the compression brake at highway speeds and the low setting at in town speeds. Keeps from jerking when slowing for a light or whatever. Unless I’m in flat country, like Louisiana, I leave it on. It disengages when I touch the break or accelerator. I had a dealer reprogram it so I can use cruse control and the compression break simultaneously. Until I get to downgrades over 7% I usually don’t touch the break or transmission. I do not have an indicator light telling me when it’s on but I can feel and hear it although it’s muffled.
I don’t believe my break lights come on when it’s engaged. I’ll have to ask someone following me one day.
