OK..let's say evenly distributed and adequately secured from movement. So a few bowling balls in a bag would probably be ok.
And yes, it is sad. Had a customer one time complain about frame issues. I happened to track them down on Facebook and saw a picture of their unit with a full on motorcycle carrier on the back. 5,000 lbs hitch. Which means 500 lbs tongue weight. The weight of the carrier alone (with ramp) was about 500lbs. With a full dress Harley on the back. "Oh, we never carried the Harley on there" of course you didn't.

The compartments are typically rated at 200lbs, but a certain level of common sense needs to come into play. So we can throw that number out there and someone can trash their compartment because "hey this lead ball was only 200lbs and you said they were rated at 200 lbs". So let's say, 200 lbs evenly distributed.
Good....I guess I can continue to keep the wife and kids in them with no problem then
Too late...I have already documented all the evidence I need.

Want to see who really loves you? Put your dog in one compartment and your wife in the other. Lock them up for two hours. Then see which one is happy to see you when you let them out.
