Force Coach battery charge from alternator

vehicle - force 37bh

symptom - inverter call E1 ( low voltage) message after a relative short period of driving (1.5h). Fridge on inverter, front tv and dvd also on inverter at the same time.

question - How to verify the coach batteries are being charge by the alternator when driving down the road?

I have followed a few of the recent threads about the coach batteries and understand that they should be charge after the chassis battery get charged up. OF late I find this may not be occurring with the symptoms above. I have even added two more agm for more amp hours

The batteries charge fine with generator and shore power. Xantrex reads 13.6v when on shore power, but only 12.4- 12.6 when not on shore/ generator with engine running and fridge tv/dvd on

battery level reads 2/3 when fridge is on (load) then goes to full when fridge is off

how can I verify batteries are being charged by alternator as there should be more than enough amp hours supplied by the battery ?

You say "of late" meaning it was charging before or at least you had no low voltage warnings before?

How old is your Force?

I check the charging voltage when on gen power, shore power or engine alt power by looking at attached picture. I am always above 13v on either of the three energy charging sources. Hope this helps.

Thanks Mike
I think that is where the problem is.
I get over 13v on gen and shore, but 12.7 on alternator.

Is there a way to check whether the converter or isolator has failed?

My recommendation is to first check output voltage at the alternator.

You already checked it...its not charging from your alternator or it should be in the 13.75 to 14 volt range with the engine running. If your coach is like most, the BCC controls the feed of the alternator to the house batteries. If you have a boost switch for starting, that fires the same solenoid to connect up the batteries as the internal circuit does.

First check the voltage on the starting battery with the engine running. If it isn't above 13 volts, your alternator is the problem. I would then look at the house battery voltage with the engine running and the boost switch depressed. If the voltage doesn't change, then the isolation solenoid is the problem.

My bad my horse. I read your reply to the alternator reading ~12.7V was displayed on the Xantrek, which is why I recommended a reading directly from alternator-to get that reading first.

Could be the BIRD module...possible block fuse on that line. If you PM me your cell I can see about having the electrical engineer give you a call. There are a few places to check he says.
