Freightliner

OK where do I start I drop my coach off at Freightliner Kalamazoo Michigan because it was pulling hard to the right and the air ride seats won’t hold air also City Horn do not work and it has a clicking coming from the driver side wheel. I just called them and they tell me oh yeah coach is ready to be picked up. And you have a balance to pay for repairs.

I Explain to the guy my coach is only seven months old and then he says oh OK. I asked him what did they do to repair the seats he tells me leaky hose. Then I go on to ask him about the City Horn he tells me it was unplugged. I said ok. Then I asked him what was going on with the steering he tells me that oh you don’t have a steering stabilizer. I tell him now you don’t have the correct vehicle because I do have one. Then he tells me to hold on.

He goes and look and come back and tell me oh you do have one that’s causing a problem. Then I tell him I added that to try to correct the drifting to the right and he tells me oh OK.

Then I asked him did you even do a will alignment or check the wheel alignment and he tells me no we didn’t check it. Then I ask him did you even do a test drive to see that it pulls to the right he tells me no. So I asked him you never checked. He says OK I’ll call you back tomorrow and that you have a balance. And I asked him why do I have a balance and for what work. He tells me that clicking noise was the hubcap on the driver side. And I tell him I removed it and still drove and I heard a clicking noise. And he tells me we will recheck it tomorrow.

So with all that said Freightliner Kalamazoo is giving me the runaround about my coach and not repairing it and want to charge me a fee. So I called where I purchased my coach from and he said it should not be like that at all. I have 2600 miles on my coach and spent a lot of money on my coach and this is how Freightliner treat their customers.

I’m going to be patient and wait on a phone call from him tomorrow. I highly doubt he will call me tomorrow and my next phone call is going to be to corporate.

Wow, sounds like a very poor service center. I would find another place and ensure they understand the situation regarding a warranty repair. Seems like it's difficult to find quality service centers for our rigs (chassis and house). So many complaints on this forum. The industry seems very immature in this space. I'm new to the RV scene. If and when you find a good service center please advise the forum so the word can be spread.

Good hunting.
Cheers,

Freightliner is normally really good. You can always try Trucks Centers Inc, in Elkhart. That is our selling dealer. They know our rigs well and are pretty responsive as they appreciate the business. It's a little longer than K'zoo, but not that far. hour?

This used to be Hill Truck, but they were bought by a much larger outfit in the midwest. Truck Centers Inc. Great group of people, still family owned and operated....so lots of locations to choose from. I think corporate is in St. Louis.

I have found the dealers in Ohio dont like RV owners, they only seem to want to work with commercial truck companies. I found one in Cleveland that is ok, but still feel like IM bothering them when I go in or call.

The one that I have used in MD is great, never had any problems and have

been there quite a few times and with other MH'S too.

Heh I can relate to that sentiment. Guess I’ve just learned to live with/expect it

I wish I could say I had good luck at Fyda’s in Houston Pa. I took my DX3 there for a driveshaft balance issue under warranty. It was so bad when I got it back that I couldn’t stand to drive it. I took the driveshafts off myself and took them to a shop and paid $300 to have them rebalanced because I refused to let Fyda’s touch it again.

I went to Trans-West Freightliner in Fountain, CO. They have a huge, really nice separate shop where they sell and service RV's. Nice folks but the service shop was pretty clueless on anything to do with the chassis. But, you go across the street to their commercial truck service facility and thats where the true experts work. They don't seem to mind working on the chassis of my rig even though its a motor home. They are doing the ECM calibration and they will do engine oil change (up to 44 quarts), oil filter, replace both fuel filters and lube all suspension and chassis grease points for $261.00. I don't think I can buy the oil and all of the filters for that price, much less not having to deal with the mess.

That’s a great price. It cost me a touch over $200 for the oil and filters.

I just checked my local Freightliner dealer an full service oil and lube with fuel filters is 600 bucks. Is there somewhere in the Los Angeles/Orange county area of California that's more reasonable? For that money it'll be time to bust out the coveralls and get busy.

Here in New England, an Oasis shop in Hartford, CT is $525 for the RV and $300 for the generator

The ticket they gave me for the $261 price describes the work/price for performing the service on a Class 8 Tractor. I don't know if that is for a medium duty chassis like ours or if Class 8 is a true big rig, but I plan to ask.

I bet the price would be higher if I had the same service done at the RV shop right next door. I suspect some of the much higher prices discussed in other places may be due to local fees required for oil disposal, etc or they just figure they can gouge the less experienced RV crowd. I know on my class A, which was just a Cummins 6.7, FL in Denver wanted $385 for an oil change. I went to the local Grease Monkey franchise and they did it for $200 as long as the weather was good because it wouldn't fit into their interior bays. Same exact oil (delo) and FL filters. You have to shop around and find the right place for a fair price or just do it yourself.

Have been using Velocity Truck Center (previously South Bay Trucks) in Carson, CA. Price for a complete oil service including fuel filters was $462. They are a large facility but they have always taken the time to make sure I was satisfied with he work.
