Freightliner M2 106 Headlight Options

Hi everyone! I am looking at alternate headlight options for the M2 106 to improve visibility and style. So far I found several options. I am concentrating my search to companies that sell the entire housing, not a kit to convert my existing.

Please let me know if you have any experience with these products.

Truck Lite Roadmax LED: These have to be ordered through your Freightliner dealer and are also apparently available to be optioned out on a factory order. I'm trying to get pricing on these.

Yes, if you give it time, I know they are adding that option soon.

I'm going to test out a much cheaper option and try to replace just the bulbs with LED's. I ordered these 9005 and 9006 kits:

Optix Luminox LED Headlight Kit | LED Foglight Bulbs | Optix Autolabs

I think others on here have used the HIDprojectors.

That is a much cheaper option. There seems to be an attitude among some that you are not supposed to switch out halogen for LED because the original shroud does not appropriately reflect the light (e.g., light is too dispersed, focuses too high, etc.) I'm really interested to know how your testing goes becasue if its fine, yours could be a great option.

I stumbled upon their site because they actually offer a full housing replacement specifically for the M2 chassis:

Optix 2002-2016 Premium Freightliner M2 LED Truck Headlight Upgrade Package | Optix Autolabs

They are just using OE housings, though. Mine are brand new, so I opted to just order the LED's by themselves.

Seemed cheap enough to give it a shot. I'll try to get some before and after pics.

I have a set of HID Projectors, they are great. I tried to change the bulbs, they looked a little brighter, but it didnt help with the road vision much.

I will be interested in hearing your opinions of them.

I bought and installed a set HID Projectors like Halla and agree with him that they are far better than factory headlamps and I am very pleased with almost triple the distance better viewing at night.

For those that are interested in the Freightliner Trucklite (Roadmax) OEM LED lamp and housing, I wanted to share the relevant part numbers and information with you. I just ordered a set today. Fair warning, these lights are ludicrously expensive. I paid over $1,300 and am somewhat embarrassed to admit it. I thought Halla and others were nuts when they paid $1K for their HIDs. Anyway, these are the same LED headlights that are a factory option.

LH Headlight P/N: A66-05475-002
RH Headlight P/N: A66-05475-003

Those are Freightliner part numbers and must be ordered from a Freightliner dealer directly. Most places show them on back order but I did find a dealer in West Virginia and a dealer in Nampa, ID that have them in stock.

Bumping this tread to report back on the LED replacement bulbs I purchased and to see how you like the new OEM Freightliner LED's.

The ones I tried out are terrible. They are bright, but, as mentioned, they throw the light in all directions vs in a straight, forward beam. I will not be keeping them.

Are you happy with the new Roadmax housings/lamps?

I'm very happy with the OEM LED. I installed them while I was on the road so I got a before and after perspective within 2 days. These lights are very bright and focused. I am still disappointed about the price I paid but they are quality and easy to adjust with with one adjustment bolt. I also noticed when I was in Elkhart at the factory and at Truck Center that all the new 106 chassis have the same LED lights. Brian mentioned that they pay a lot less than I did for them. Maybe Brian can buy them and people can order through Dynamax?
