Fresh Water Plumbing Check Valve(s), Isata 5

On the shore water supply of the fresh water system, the water inlet in the wet bay doubles as a check valve. This exists so water doesn't come pouring out in to the wet bay when you are using the tank water and the electric water pump.

I'm curious what provides this functionality on the tank side. In other words, when you are hooked up to shore water and not using the tank water with the electric pump, what is preventing water from backing up into the water tank?

The "logical" answer is the water pump itself, but I thought I would ask the collective knowledge of this forum before making any assumptions.

Thanks!

Typically the water pump has its own check valve that prohibits "City Water" from entering the campers plumbing/fresh water tank.

Yeah, that’s not right. There should (must?) be a check valve at the water connection point.

I don’t have a DX3, but my gut says that dynamax uses the same water connection/check valve part across most (all?) their coaches. It’s so simple to replace that it’s silly. 3 screws, one threaded connection on the back that doesn’t require a wrench and then install is the reverse of removal.

This is the part in question:

Oh yeah, forgot about the fact that the Force and DX3 have a reel.

.....I still maintain that something is not right there. How do you stop the flow of water if you're using the tank? I mean, you could put a valve or something on the end of the hose, but I find it highly unlikely that Dynamax expects all Force and DX3 owners to install a shut-off valve on the end of their hose before they start using the tank and electric pump.

Hose came with a little plug that screws on the end of the reel when not hooked up. I would question it too but it works surprisingly without issue. We use the tank/pump plenty

I never would have guessed! I would have thought that a check valve would be (borderline) mandatory. Sort of like how a backflow preventer would be needed in a sticks-and-bricks house to keep your domestic water from backing into the city water.

I even remembered to snap a pic of this hi tech mechanism this weekend

TBH never had any issue aside from when I go to hookup and forget to turn off the water pump...

I think this is probably why I see backflow preventers on a lot of the campground hookups

Why yes, that is fancy!

Personally, I am very happy that ours has a check valve because it's very "automatic" in nature. I don't have to remember if I put the plug in.....or more than likely hope I don't lose it. However, I also don't have a hose reel. In your case, you would need the check valve to be attached to the end of the hose (where your plug is). If your check valve was at the inlet to the coach, then the hose on the reel would continue to drain the water that's left in it while you were traveling down the road.
