Hauling over 10k

Is anyone hauling over 10k with their DX3? If so, hows it doing? I'm pulling my Ram 2500 diesel @ 8k and it does pretty good on flats but pedal to the medal on hills. Thinking about hauling my bike in the truck bed another 700 lbs. I know it tow capacity is 20k but!!! Numbers can be deceiving.

I'm hauling about the same as you and have had the same experience. No problems on flat ground, going through the steep grades (7%) of the Rockies I was happy at 45mph up and down.

I'm sure I can do 20k just fine, but you're gonna feel it on the mountains for sure. Then again so do the 600hp semis!

Thanks for the response. I had a 3500 and traded for the 2500 mega cab. Come to find out there's only a 400 lb difference between the two.. that suprised me. Guess its part of it.. enjoy the view while crawling up..

I am towing around 8500-9k; however, I have not pulled up or went down a 7% grade yet. Good to know 45mph is achievable. What gear are you in when climbing the 7% grade?

I know I was in 4th going down with the jake on high. Only had to break it down from 55 to 45 a couple times in a longer stretch on I70. I tried 5th but boy did she want to run away then.

Cant remember tbh going up. It was either 3rd or 4th I want to say. I let the allison choose on that one though.

Did you tow I-70 from Denver to Grand Junction? Nice.

Yup, both ways. Rig performed admirably.

Same issue with smaller motor and towing, slows down to about 45-50 in Virginia mountains.

How did you get your speed under control when in 5th gear. Just put it in 4th with the exhaust brake on?

Just a lot more braking to get it slowed down. I could definitely see how they'd heat up in the higher gears
