Hide a bed

Hello, we are new and our 2016 Dynamax Force HD has a hide a bed. When we fold it out it doesn't lay flat. The part under the couch is slanted way downhill. Ideas of what I am doing wrong?

Ours does the same. The foldout brace-legs are too long by a couple of inches.

just picked up a new 2016 DX3. My son is 6'3" and just didn't want to sleep in the bunk. Our hide a bed is exactly the same as you reported. I assumed the hide a bed would have a terrible mattress and be somewhat uncomfortable but did not think it would be COMPLETELY unusable. I thought that I was not folding it out incorrectly. Your head is a few inches below your hips then your feet somewhere between the two. Sleeping in a rainbow shape isn't too comfortable.

I've lurked on here for a month prior to picking up my DX3 and am very impressed by bclemens spending time on the forum. Hopefully he can explain if something is weird or can be adjusted. I can't believe with all of the thought put into all of the systems on this coach that the hide-a-bed passes as such. If that is the way it is then I'll look to have a fix fabricated.

Not sure, but instead of fabricating fix to the brace-legs, I was thinking of 2-3 inch shims under the couch legs. Not sure if this is possible, but my grandchildren refuse to sleep on it given the 2-3 inch slope.

Pictures? My initial inclination is that the legs on the sofa are missing.

I'll grab pictures tomorrow.

One other thing I noticed while I was looking under the head of the bed is that there are two holes large enough I can see daylight. They are close to the sides where the bed mounts on the inside of the couch. Looks like maybe someone forgot to mount something?

Again, I'll snap some pics tomorrow and post them up. Thanks!

Easiest fix is to increase the angle of the end bar and cut down the middle bar.

The more difficult, would be to add feet to the sofa, but then you have to figure out a way to bolt the sofa back to the floor now that it is 2" higher.

I have a call into the supplier to see what they can offer up as a solution.

Please let me know what they say. I was going to unbolt the bed from the sides of the couch and move it up a few inches but If there is a better fix I'm all ears. I thought about cutting down the middle bars also but would need to find a cap of some sort so the floor doesn't get damaged. If this was a used RV it wouldn't even be a question but having to cut down legs and make more holes in a brand new RV stings a little. Speaking of holes, any idea what the two under the couch are?

Thanks for your help Brian.

I just cut the middle legs down 1.5" and it's much better. Not perfect but I think it's sleepable short term. Still slopes about 3" from the front to back and the bar underneath is uncomfortable but it will work until I figure something else out.

What two holes are you talking about? Is it in the carpet, picture 1?

As soon as I head from the supplier I'll let you know what their response was.

Hey guys I discovered this issue back in Febuary and considered several options. I ended up having Dynamax send me the legs that were originally on the couch before being removed. The couch fits very securely and now works perfectly. The lack of legs on the furniture my also explain the dinette being lower than normal in relation to table. The easiest fix there is securing the latch before the table reaches full height. P. Werner

Yes, picture one and two. There is a hole in each side. I looked under the slide out and it looks like there were carriage bolts in there at one time. I shot some silicone in there for now just to keep critters out.

That is more than likely what they were. When we switched from ensemble (sofa dinette combined) to a separate sofa and dinette (for bigger sleeping area and more functional dinette), I think they had pre-drilled for seatbelt locations. Those ultimately ended up moving and they never filled them with a carriage bolt.

I went through my dealer but I also called Dynamax and they would send the legs as well. It was an easy fix and now works great.

Well, the issue is our supplier no longer stocks sofa feet. I asked again what their solution was.

Brian-would you happen to know the approximate length/height of the legs that would be attached to the sofa if not used in MH setup? I'm trying to figure out how high I need to raise the sofa to get the hide-a-bed laid out straight, and new L-brackets to try and use the same screw-holes. Thanks.

ok..here is what I got from the supplier.

Originally the sofa legs were about 3.75". This seemed to make the sofa bed flow downhill, made it difficult to secure the sofa to the floor and it sat too tall for shorter people. At some point, someone suggested taking those legs off to solve those issues...but as with any good deed, it did not go unpunished. That made the sofa sit low....which shorter people are just fine with...but when made into a bed, makes the bed slope towards the heads.

So, in a perfect world, they say tell me that 2" feet under the sofa is the way to go.
