Running on board genny with autoformer inline.
Didn't think the gen would boost with high voltage.
Maybe I'll take the autoformer out of the line and try it again.

Kenny. I have looked at a lot of data concerning the waveform from generators. While it is a sine wave, on some models it is not a classic sine wave. This is especially true of Onan generators powering Progressive Dynamics converters.
It ain't perfect. Perhaps there is also an interaction with the autoformer as well.

I've ditched the PD converter in favour of a magnum inverter charger.

I'm not following the perceived issue. Converters do not make 120 v, they are powered by 120 v and make 12v.
Why would a converter be blamed for 137 incoming volts? That sounds like a source power problem to me.
Autoformer should just pass that voltage through, as it does not shut down.
The PI EMS however should have shut off the power once 133 v was seen.

It's of moderate interest to me that more RVs and campers don't wind up burning to the ground due to fiddling with electrical systems. Just sayin'.

I'm a retired EE with considerable experience in power systems. I see a lot of descriptions by folks who have modified wiring who have no idea what the net effect of their modifications might be. Some of the modifications and practices described have been clearly dangerous and/or damaging.
I am not judging the original post one way or the other, the thought just floated up.

I fully understand the modifications performed on my vehicles.
I will do more testing, but I think the autoformer may be boosting, even when voltage is high enough that it is not needed.
The ems performed its job, and did not allow power to the coach.
It was an experiment, and was ended quickly.

Are Canadian volts the same as US volts? Sort of like the Dollars are different with one being more inflated rhan the other? Just kidding.

I spoke to Hughes tech this evening...
While on the phone, we ran the generator and watched the Hughes.
It was cycling between pass through and boost, every few seconds.
He thought, maybe there was something that the generator was putting out, that the AF didn't like.
He mentioned he had not heard of this issue before.
I have two options..
1. Re wire the AF before the transfer switch.
2. Take the AF out of the loop, when not needed. ( I used the install kit)
This would take 30 seconds to perform.
I'm going with #2..

Now you sound like my wife... She's always yelling that at me!
But seriously.. How do you take it out of the loop? Is it just plugged in?

Yes... Wire from transfer has a female.
AF male plus in, then ems male into the AF. Out from ems to inverter, from inverter to breaker panel.
So I can just plug ems into transfer switch.

Since the Force has a surge protection standard is it okay to add additional protection by adding the Progressive Industries EMS?
