I 5 Lav drain mod

When we first got our coach the sink in the bathroom drained slowly and gurgled air bubbles back through no matter the level of the coach. Something to do with the vent stack I'm sure. Well last year BC suggested we try the 'duck bill' trap otherwise known as the HEPvO drain valve. Well I finally got around to trying this and with the help of my dealer RV Solutions in San Diego the mod is complete. The good news is the HEPvO valve takes up much less room than a traditional 'P' Trap. The other really good news is there is no slow draining or gurgling going on and the water simply drains out. I like it.

Thanks BC.

Congrats on the fix. I noticed your RVI sensor placement. Did you splice or what to get power? Looks like a good placement for mine. Im not good at electrical but the HDMI ports look simple. Im guessing the signal is of there? Sorry to HiJack

Paul, that RV Hub is powered by USB and the bath room has a USB outlet on the face of the cabinet just to the right of the photo. So I pulled the outlet away from the cabinet, plugged in the RVi Hub and then routed the wire to the side of and behind the face plate of the outlet box. The RVi power cable is a slim flat cable that is not really pinched in this install. Simply opening the door to the lav cabinet allows you to see the RVi Hub status lights. By the way you can buy those HEPvO valves on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/HEPVO-BV1BUB1...gateway&sr=8-1

No poop in the sink

Paul, here is another plus. If your Tecma 'black tank is full sensor' fails you, maybe because it fell off the tank and your tank is full and you don't know it's full because the light is still yellow and not red? And you flush one too many times? Well with the HEPvO valve you won't see black water backing up the vent stack and into your bathroom sink. Ask me how I know all this.

It has been added to my Amazon cart and when we are not camping (Gold Country RV for past 8 days / 3 left) I will try and get it installed. I looked and will probably do what you did with the RVI. At least you're modification project is $25. Im tired of the $$$$ projects. I need to spend that money on Jeep mods. Thank you sir.

Casey, could you do me a large favor? .....can you take a picture of this install, but also show what it looks like where it tees into the vent stack? Your original picture manages to cut off RIGHT at the tee.

I really want to install this in our 35DB, BUT it seems like the HEPvO is juuuuust a hair too long to to fit in-between the sink drain and the vent stack.

Probably wouldn't help you I'm a DS and you are a DB so different config and dimensions and such. I'll go over to storage to day and take a photo. The photo below says it all really. This is a shot of the mock up I did. You'd cut the old all out of the stack and install a new 'T'. At the end of the HEPvO you just screw on a glue plumbing fitting and glue it into a new 'T'. Of course every time you do this you have to install a new 'T' into the stack. The stack can move around a bit but don't pull it out of the roof or the tank.

Thanks for that picture, that really does cover what I was hoping to see.

Yeah, I knew the DS and DB would be different, so I just wanted to see yours for reference so I knew what kind of space you were working with.

The problem I am having is that the drain end of the HEPvO is a compression fitting for 1.5" PVC. So, I am going to have to have at least 1.5-2.0" of a PVC stub sticking out for the HEPvO to "grab" onto. However, the HEPvO's length puts me right at the vent stack in the wall, so an additional 1.5-2.0" on top of that is a stretch.

I went to my local Ace Hardware and found all the black fittings I needed. Lots of optional little fittings that might make yours work. Go over there and dig around. I took the HEPvO with me and a photograph of the 'T' for my local guy's advice. I bought too much but at the dealer (he did the work for me) we had all the fittings to make it happen. Good luck.

My install was very tight as well. I actually shaved the collars on the fittings basically in half to make the squeeze. Joyce is much happier with the flow now.

Gotcha. Thanks. I was HOPING that you had a 35DB so I could sleep easy knowing that someone else had actually accomplished this in the space that the 35DB has to offer.

In my brain, I have a solution.....now, will it work in reality? not sure yet. I really want to get that bathroom sink draining better though.

Anything will work, I was questioning the install myself as I was cutting into the drain/vent pipe. Worst part of the install was having to do most of it left handed.

Yeah, I am no stranger to cutting that vent stack and ABS assembly is about as tough as Legos, so that's the least of my concerns. I am more concerned about it dimensionally fitting in-between the drain of the sink and the vent stack itself. It just looks impossible to fit in there.

I'm actually thinking that since the HEPvO can be mounted in any position, I might run the sink drain back towards the corner of the cabinet, THEN poke into the wall with that contains the vent stack and THEN make a 45 degree drop into that vent stack with the HEPvO.

Hard to describe in words, but using Casey picture with some annotations, this is what I am thinking might work:

That'd work, but looks harder to do. The good news is no matter how you do it stack gas and water will not come back up the HEPvO valve.
