I thought it was dirty but...

REV 24RB had sealant put under rear roof where it curls over the rear cap to hopefully resolve an occasional water leak. There was a large gap under that area due to missing sealant.

Masking tape was put on rear cap to protect that area while sealant (Dicor?) was installed. When masking tape was removed it took off the paint on the rear cap.

That area was repainted. All under warranty.

The RV was somewhat dirty Click image for larger version

ID:	182575when I dropped it off and I thought the streaks were dirt when I picked it up. The streaks were not there prior to the repair.

I washed it the other day and the streaks did not come off. I took a closer look and one can see that the streaks originate from the repair area.

I learned enough on this forum to refrain from making assumptions and jumping to conclusions.

Are these streaks from the sealant or the paint job?

What can I try to remove them?

I am thinking of trying denatured alcohol but I will wait for suggestions.

Thanks,

Bobby

Try mineral spirits. I had my RV into Orvan and they resealed all the joints around the unit. I had streaks afterword. Mineral spirits took care of it easy peasy...

We get this from time to time when they seal stuff and then wipe over it with a chemical to clean it up. It ends up diluting the seal a bit so it runs. It does come off...but not just with soap and water. We use something called 900?? BASF product. Don't use paint thinner....900 is like a really mild thinning agent.

Just pour a small amount on a rag and wipe the area. Mineral spirits is a mild solvent and fast evaporating so you will need to add more to the rag as it dries.

I had all the entire RV resealed and as bclemens said they cleaned with some chemical that made streaks all the away around our 5th wheel. I cleaned it off with mineral spirits, no paint removal at all. If your concerned just try in a small area.

I then cleaned and waxed with wash wax all, looks brand new.

It does look good but I am surprised it doesn't fall off the ground being upside down and all

Naw, that was from sniffing the BASF product. If you do not have mineral spirits, use charcoal lighter fluid. Avoid the decals with either product tho.

Temps finally dropped out of the 90’s and no rain since last night.

I found the bug and tar remover first but it didn’t help much.

Then I found my mineral spirits. That worked much better but sun is setting. I want to see how it worked in daylight tomorrow.

I don’t know if I have to worry about the shelf life of these products but I bought them in the previous century.

Did it cause a problem? I didn’t have to clean any decals thus why I said maybe a good caution. What was your experience?

Delco Bobby, Was anyone around when you were doing this. I use an equation that I call blame density (BD). BD=1/(# of people close by). So if just you the BD=1/1 or 100% your fault. If another person is around, they don’t have to be involved but close by, the BD=1/2 or 50% your fault as you can always say they distracted you in some way. So you can see how more people involved the less responsibility you have. Our government works on this principle...lol

How many flies were there?

I didn’t see any damage at the time. Too dark now to examine.

What I have known for years is Ronson cigarette lighter fluid will remove lots of stains, tar, fly poop and bugs without hurting any plastics, rubber or vinyl. I used to use it for cleaning photo negatives for professional photographers. It evaporates faster than mineral spirits and not as fast as de-natured alcohol.
