Isata 5 storage bins?

Third and final question for the day, haha, does anyone know how strong the rotocast plastic bins are? I am afraid to put anything heavy on them, seems like they would sag, warp (well my main one is warped like hell) or break?

The cool thing about being empty is when the cargo lights are on it lights up the ground under, like ground effects lighting, lol.

We have a DX3, but the bin material is most likely the same. They are supposed to support 200lbs but do sag with heavy stuff. Some people have put supports underneath, but you have to drill into the frame. We cut wood pieces to fit each bin. Weight is now distributed better. Seems to work nicely AND we have just about everything in them according to my DH.

thanks, that is what I am thinking, to have a plywood type base, even if it's only 1/4" plywood, it may help. The downside for a 5 owner is the weight of the plywood base starts to hurt since we have almost no allowed CCW.

Depends on which one you have. 30FW that just came across the scales had 2500 lbs of CCC. Pretty darn good for a 30' coach.

36' with 4x4 and all the bells and whistles...then yes, you are likely just over 1,000.

I put plywood in where I needed some support. Out here in the west when it gets hot the bins sag (melt sort of) no matter what's in them. So if you have something heavy put some bracing underneath (there are a couple of threads on here of what some have done to support the bins) or some plywood.
I put plywood in the large bin next to the entry door and in the rear where I installed a Cord Reel I reinforced the floor with plywood. I'm letting the other bins sag.

P.S. I have the 4x4 DS which has the least CCC of the 5's. I have most everything I need and every time I weigh in I'm fine. Loaded but fine. Anything heavy and extra I need I put in my trailer (Jeep Wrangler TOAD), like a case of water, some extra beer, DEP and such.

Hey Casey,

What size plywood? Everything now is about added weight and trying to keep it down. I think my 35DB has less CCW than yours though. It's almost like zero after you put people and water in it. I wish I could weigh my front end down though as I was getting high beam flashed a lot when I was on low beams. Talk about sag, I noticed my fresh water tank really has a sagging top.

I don't remember probably 3/8" it's at the dealer or I'd measure it for you. You want something to distribute the load to the edges where the strength lies. You could use 1/4" aluminum plate? I through bolted mine as it's really a base for that cord reel and I couldn't have movement. That compartment has not sagged. The larger one with heavy tools in it has sagged some even with the plywood. I went to Home Depot and bought a couple of those precut sheets that were very close to the size I needed and then I only had to rip off a few inches for the final fit. So I added maybe 20 lbs I'd guess? The Cord Reel weighs about 20 lbs, and I've added an entertainment center where the cab over bed used to be that probably added 100 lbs up there. I'm still under max for the front axle and under overall. That's with full fuel, half water, full propane and me on board. I run 110lbs in the tires to handle all the weight, makes for a harsh ride, the tires are wearing perfectly at the pressure, and I try to avoid pot holes but at 12,000 miles I can say it drives as well as any rig I've ever owned and we get about 10 MPG on average, 9 in the mountains and all this towing a Jeep Rubicon. We like it.

The 35DB is not available with 4x4 because it would have dropped it below what we were comfortable with.

So the 35DB 4x4 should have at least or slightly more CCC than a 36DS with 4x4.

If you have the Bunkhouse your CCC will be higher than mine. Mine is 1,400 lbs. Not a lot but I'm making it work for me. I don't carry the tools I used to, but I don't like throwing wrenches like I used to anyway.
