Large Screen Xite Infortainment

Brian, have you considered upgrading the Xite Infotainment Center to the new larger screen (9" touch screen vs. 6")? Winnebago installs these in Via, View & Navions.

We have considered it. I think we figured it would be about $1300 MSRP to upgrade. Plus the brain resides in a module that eats up the space of the little change section in the dash.

Fusion makes one that is 8", fits the whole perfectly. Not as big a jump.

We are also looking at a Kenwood with a 7 (6.95") screen that would be the same or less than that Xite,6. Apple Car Play/Android Auto

I question the need for hard wired GPS, since no system is like the one that you run currently. I tried using the one in my Jeep recently. It's on a 2014 and the maps are way outdated. Just a pain, so I use my phone. Apple CarPlay, I cause my phone and get it on the big screen.

Electronics are my biggest headache. You can force 100% of the people to pay way more for a system only 10% will take advantage of, or save 90% of the people money and let the 10% upgrade aftermarket to get what they want. There is no right decisions...only varying degrees of wrong.

I don't like the hardwired GPS either, I would rather use the carplay. As you know Apple and Google maps adds traffic issues and routes you around if needed, most hardwired don't do that.

Kenwood would be nice, I love the Pioneer units I have used, screen is edge to edge, no buttons to make the screen smaller.

I've been playing around with all of them lately.

Fusion by Garmin. Nice big 8" screen, Garmin Nav is nice with RV related features (but chip based NAV that would require updates). No CarPlay yet. Pretty expensive

Kenwood DMX7704S (mech-less). 7" screen..but when using Apple Car Play, its pretty cool as your phone becomes a second screen really. All the turns are on the phone, search box for nav...but the map displays on the radio screen. The phone becomes the remote and you can scroll ahead to look at turns. I know my wife does this sometimes to guide me in. For a little more money, I can upgrade to capacitive screen and motorized screen with CD/DVD.

Sony with Apple CarPlay. 6.4" screen, CD/DVD

I guess the question is...does anyone really use CD's and DVD's anymore on the dash? DVD's can be played on TV's, so really maybe just CD's, but I stream all my music or use XM. The only advantage to the motorized screen is if there is a glare you can change the angle.

The Fusion, you can add a Camera button to the main screen.
The Sony Camera button is a software button, so you would need to click a couple of buttons
The Kenwood has a hard camera button on the bottom, so easy to get to from any screen.

I need to choose one for 2019 MY.

That is the Kenwood I was looking at. You can add a dash cam that integrates with the system. I am leaning that way.

Ah...yes, I knew I forgot something. That was the one item that pushed the kenwood to the top of the heap. You can add a dash cam, that also has a forward collision warning. I'm not sure if I love the idea of passive...I think my Jeep is pretty effective with Active collision avoidance as it slams on the brakes and scares the crap out of me when I try to run up on someone that turned out in front of me, only to turn at the next block.

But a beep and flash is better than nothing. It also has departure warning...if you're sitting there playing on your phone and traffic leaves.

The larger the screen the better for us old folks that are going blind.
Steering wheel controls need to work to stay focused on driving.
Supports Android-based phones & apps.
Turn-by-turn voice guidance & routing.
Lifetime map updates via SD or USB.
Campgrounds & RV parks, national & State parks POIs
Camera button & volume knob.
SiriusXM
WiFi connection.
Bluetooth connectivity for phone & music streaming
USB MP3 playback.
No dependency on cell phone service.

I am willing to pay the extra price difference between the Xite 6" & the Xite 9" just to get the larger screen retaining all the same overall functionality & Rand McNally features.

You would have to coordinate that with your dealer.

The 9" Xite doesn't fit in the double DIN. It was designed for the Sprinter opening.

As for the Kenwood...we're still not there. We have to do some testing, as we haven't decided what we want to do yet. Before we could even thing about installing we have to make sure it works with the cameras the way we want and then modify harnesses. Takes time. Right now they are just mocking up demo boxes of each.
