Nice addition!!! I often wished for something like that when fumbling for the right switch. I did add a cheap book light for that reason but like your solution better. The only thing I might do differently is power it from the electric step light so it would light up when the door opens.

Did not tap into wires. Used piggyback spade connector enables you to share 2 wires to 1 terminal.
One photo shows red piggyback spade connected to power from porch light. Provides constant power to LED light bar.
Other photo red piggyback spade connected to battery ground hour meter generator.
The wires on LED light bar are short you have to use splice connector and extend wires.
