Change brands. Get a Dometic ceramic. has a horizontal slide valve. I put one into our first motorhome and did not have the problems I had with Thetford. My Prime time 5th wheel came with a Dometic and have had no problems in five years

A lot to be said about having an elongated bowl, soft closing seat, ADA height, non-macerator for flushing without water.

Cassette toilets are interesting as well.

I love this board.

I too had a seeping problem. At the end of last year I tried 2 bottles of seal conditioner. Perhaps it helped a little but it didn't cure the problem. This spring it was going to be replace the ball and seal time. If that didn't work, the whole toilet was going to go.

I come on this board after a short absence and there is the answer waiting for me. Let the sucker slam shut!!! Problem cured. I really appreciate you guys. You are a mine of totally useful information. Thanks.

We spray the ball and adjacent area with a silicon spray periodically and that eases the intensity of the slam needed🙄

We periodically spray the ball and adjacent area with a silicon spray after shutting the water off and opening the ball with the pedal. That eases the intensity of the slam needed to hold water.

Vaseline!!!

We had the same issue, and got an advise from an Old RVer...he told us to get a pair of latex gloves, paper towels, disinfectomg wipes, and Vaseline! Shut the water off, make sure no water is tricking down, use paper towels, clean the black seal on top and below with the wipes, dry it really good with paper towel, and take the index finger with about a dime size dab of Vaseline. Rub around the underside of the black seal all around, and let the flap go in and out with the pedal! Turn water on, and that should end the problem! If it doesn’t, then it would be a more serious matter! We have tried the above several times in our 3 year rig and it worked like a charm!!! Hope it helps!

Plumbers grease?

Home Depot has small tubes of plumbers grease. It’s a Heavy petroleum jelly. I’m going to try it.

I always keep a spare toilet in our TT. Side storage compartment...has small shovel, Roll of TP on a hook. Go into the woods...dig a hole, let it go, fill it in...that's the end.

A good old fashioned military entrenching tool. Every camper should have one.

This worked on our new 5er as well.
It hold the anti freeze all winter

Well this has been I-n-t-e-r-e-s-t-i-n-g. This next trip I will let it slam shut. Of course this is guaranteed to wake the DW around 3 am.

As stated I have already replace the ball seal. So will try the hot water also.

If that doesn't work then goodbye Thetford plastic throne. Move to a Dometic Ceramic.

Can't speak for the plastic thetford . but the aqua magic with the porcelain bowl i don't have to slam it shut . every few months it's just clean and lube the seal and all is good for another few months . you'll have the same issues with a dometic after awhile the seals will need to be cleaned and lubed . seem lots of dometic toilets that don't holds water and seems people for the most part don't seem to care . on this forum people are more prone to taking care of their units

Is it a Thetford or Dometic?
What model number?
It can be a Dynamax issue, as they do not install the flex drain line correctly like on my I5 and the water siphons out of the toilet.

I think some of you forget, improper installation affects how many of the appliances work.

Replaced my creaky, leaky Dometic 300 with a porcelain elongated bowl model Dometic 320. Just finishing up a 10 day trip and I absolutely love the 320.
