Limp mode

Ok I'm a little ticked, got 3053 miles on new dx3 and Allison went into limp mode, got code po 715 and had to drive 5 miles in first gear to a campground in the middle of nowhere in Az. Now coach net tells me it needs to be towed to flagstaff for service. For those of you familiar with a 37ts how are they going to tow it without the rear dragging on the pavement? Had to have our old tiffin bus towed one and ended up with damage, obviously don't want that to happen to our new dx3. Any body had their dx3 towed? Sat in campground overnight and transmission display says code inactive, does that mean I might be able to drive it?

Had ours towed out of our driveway that has a large downhill to uphill transition, and there were no issues. I left the ball mount in the receiver, though, just for extra insurance...it would drag before anything else would. Just make sure they pull the driveshaft and connect an airline to one of the air tanks in order to release the parking brakes and inflate the rear air bags.

All that said, though, if the codes were gone, I’d probably try to drive it.

I was able to find a similar thread I remembered from a while back...here’s a link to it where similar issues and solutions are discussed:

I hope this helps. We have a 2018 DX3 and while driving back from Borrego Springs I started getting tranny error codes would not shift. So I nursed it home and called the local Freightliner repair shop. They could not find anything and Charged me $400. My Freightliner rep told me I should keep my claim opened and suggested I take it to an Allison repair shop. There was a shop on my way home so I dropped it off. They called the next morning and had found the problem and got permission from Freightliner to fix it.
when freightliner installs the transmission they use a short wiring harness and it can rub through and short out on the frame. The Allison guys said it is a very common problem. Ten feet of electrical tape and some cable cover and all was well. I hope your problem is this simple.

Thanks, read thru the posts. Now that it has set over night the trans display all read ok with just one inactive fault. Will unhook and drive around the park but wait till Monday to talk to a tec at freightliner before hitting the road again

Our member HOOK47 had a problem on the I-40 and was towed to Flagstaff by Freightliner. I found the thread. stuck on I-40 East
Suggest sending a PM to Hook47. He's been there.

Ahh, the memories! No trouble towing it but as has been said drive shaft gets disconnected and there is a fitting in the engine bay for the air line.



Sorry for your problems. My problem as the post said was a chaffed wire bundle. Hope it is something simple like that.
