Looking at first RV

Hi, my wife and I are looking at a 2015 Dynamax Dx3 FK and could use a little guidance from those of you who have gone on before us.

It has 17,000 miles on it. There are a number of cosmetic defects, a couple of which worry a rookie like me. The worst is that the upholstery on the driver seat and on one of the sofas is peeling. The black vinyl covering is peeling loose from the cloth. There are also scuff marks on the flooring in front of the refrigerator from the slides. Is that normal? My overactive imagination make me worry that there might be something wrong with the slides. It is also missing the mattress in the bedroom. Will a standard king size mattress fit that?

Also, has anyone ever changed out some of the factory options like replacing the sofa with the theater seat option?

Thanks in advance for any help in guidance you can give me.

The more experienced will chime in soon, but no scuff marks from slide is not normal, but might just need to be adjusted. Lots of people switch out/change furniture. We have a 2018, it has an "RV" king bed, between a king and a queen. Sometimes called a "quing" 67" x 75". Yours is a 2015 my be different. You will get lots of advice soon, good luck!!

Not sure on the scuff marks, that sounds unusual to me. I wonder if there is something stuck under the slide wheels?

RV mattresses can be ordered in custom sizes for a decent price. Tochta is one of the companies, depending on how thick etc... they have a good following online.

Changing out the furniture has been done by a bunch of different owners and there are a few places that can do it for you too.

Good luck, hope you find what you are looking for.

2015 dx3fk

2015 DX3 FK we are looking at has 17,400 miles and here are pictures of all of the defects. The dealer is asking $172k and my wife and I would be grateful for any thoughts anyone would like to share about that price for that year/model/condition. I am going to drive it tomorrow and assuming everything else is fine, what's a fair price? We are located in Austin TX. It was sold new for $220k.
Thx!

At that price, for a 3-4 year old unit, I would expect it to be perfect. It isn't. They should either make it perfect, at the same price or you need to look further. Maybe you just need to look further. This seems like a bad deal to me.

I’d keep looking. It doesn’t look well cared for which would make me wonder if they did proper maintenance.

Move on, this unit looks like it was never cared for. I am sure you can do better.

That’s seems like a pretty high price for that much wear and tear. Mine is a 2016 with 30k miles and doesn’t show anything like that or even close

"It was sold new for $220k."

The MFG "list" price is never the sales price.

New Sales price is usually 25% to 30% less than "list:.

I have a 2015 and it looks nearly new. Move on. There is nothing a dealer can do now if the unit was not maintained properly.

More concerning I thinking the dealer didn’t try to make it more appealing to buy maybe an appolstry shop was to expensive but screwing panels back in place should not be a no brainer

I'm not certain how much priority dealers put on selling used rvs. The ones we looked at were being sold 'as is'.

When in doubt... walk away.

Agree on all of this. I'd have concerns on what I can see from the pictures, but also knowing that there are more issues like it that I can't see...like maintenance that others mentioned. And like Moose074 said, I'd be concerned about a dealer that would sell a unit in this condition. Either drop the price 20% or call me when it's you have it in excellent condition and all the 20,000 mile maintenance has been performed. In the meantime be looking elsewhere to buy one in better shape from a better dealer. This doesn't feel right.

That’s a plausible sale price. MSRP on that unit likely in the 310-320 range

In fairness, that was the 25% discounted price. The full MSPR was much higher. We have found several 2019 DX3s that we can get here in Texas exactly the way we want, but at 25% off MSRP they still come in at $240,000 optioned the way we want it. Since we've never owned this type of RV before, we are being cautious and deciding to look at lightly used ones to save a little money.

In fairness to this dealer, this RV was not listed on their website and we only found out about it when we called to ask if they had any DX threes and they mentioned they had literally just taken one in on trade but that it wasn't ready to be shown yet. Personally, I would rather see it before the dealer has gone through it because I'm sure they could do a few things to hide things like the scuff marks on the floor which might indicate a bigger problem with the slides. Also, the 172 is their asking price.

What worries me the most about this one is the scuffs on the floor. I didn't show a picture of it but the same slide that is causing the scarves has a dent about the size of a golf ball on the forward facing outside top edge. Looks like perhaps someone was moving this RV with the slide out and ran into someThing. I would assume that once you do something like that it's a nightmare to ever get the slides perfect again. While the mattress thing is a little worrying, for all I know the owner got drunk and wet the bed.

There is another DX3 we found in San Antonio that's a 2016 with 13,000 miles. It is a one owner and being sold by the owner asking 187k. It is immaculate, but it doesn't have the TV option that we like. I personally hate a TV that is just mounted facing back in the front of the cab where you're always looking at a 90° angle to see the TV. The entertainment center option where the TV is diagonally in the front corner looking back either on its own ceiling attach or the fireplace pedestal seems to be a better way to go for us. Unless of course, folks with experience tell me it's a piece a cake to put a nice TV in a different place. The perfect one for us would have the theater seats facing directly into a nice large TV. My wife would also love to get a unit with the all electric option, but we haven't been able to find it on any of the slightly older units. I don't know when it became available.
