However, that doesn't mean that 100% of the low bridges have been mapped. If it looks too low....don't trust the mapping.

I have been using RV Trip wizard. It is an online subscription application.
It has low clearance alerts that show during planning.
Nice feature is the route you choose can be downloaded onto the Rand McNally navigation on the Xite nav system. Has worked well so far.

One other note. If any overpass is listed as under 14 foot I am very cautious. Many times an overlay is applied to a road bed and the height signs have not been updated. I know from first hand experience with high equipment load and a railroad overpass! Sign said it would fit. NOT

Not GPS, but the Park Advisor app shows low bridges on their maps function. You have to go into set up and select it, though. I can't attest to its accuracy, but it helped me last summer in NY.

In a truck stop in Sinclair, WY I saw a cartoon showing a truck firmly stuck under a low bridge talking to a Trooper Caption said:

"I'm not stuck I just need to know where you want this bridge delivered?"

RVParky app / website (both free) shows many. No idea if it is a complete list.

I like using RVParky for trip planning.

Can you describe the process you go thru to get the RV Trip data transferred into the XITE? Thanks.

You will need the Rand McNally SD card from the XITE.

Here is a link to the Rand McNally help for the needed free software.
With directions.

http://www.randmcnally.com/support/s/dock-software

In the RV Trip Wizard there is a wrench icon on the left side with the stops listings of your plan. That is where you can export to the GPS.
The dock software is also how you update your navigation in the XITE.

The Dock installation is requiring a connection to the device. I take it that it wants to see the Rand McNally SD card. This makes me nervous. Will this software write to the SD card. Can the SD card be cloned to prevent screwups? How do you get rid of old trips if it writes to the SD card?

Thanks.

Yes, it will write to the card with the Rand McNally updates and will update your card trips with the downloaded trip from RV Trip Wizard planning tool. This is done on your home computer.

To get rid of old trips you do that on the XITE info system (with the SD card plugged in to the XITE system.) To get rid of trips on the RV Trip Wizard you would do that inside the application.

As to cloning the card. I have not tried that.

The software does make a backup of your card In the process of importing a trip. You can also have it backup your card without writing to it.
