M2-106 Electrical Problems

FYI: Intermittent problems with engine electrical, such as: engine continues to run with key off, brake lights, tail lights, ABS system, Parking brake and warning sirens, with numerous bulkhead module vaults.

There is a round 47 pin male/female connector located behind the left fender, between the fuel tank and the frame up by the dashboard firewall.
You can see it laying on the ground and looking up, but you can not get to it.

Connector had water, and was badly corroded, and shorted. They have no idea how water would get there.

Freightliner has to remove left fender to get to the connector. the connectors were replaced under warranty, and all is well.

Must not have been connected tightly. Those plugs are pretty reliable. Isolated innocent I bet they told ya.. or, its the first they've seen.. glad it was found and corrected. Now I'll look around and check mine. Thanks for the heads up.

Isolated incident, but they have seen it before.

Not fun having that stuff come on while driving down step grade in West Virginia, like warning "parking brake on" with warning siren blaring.

Just thought I would give everybody a heads up.

Thanks for sharing, hopefully it was a one time thing for all of us.

Even though these are big trucks, it is funny how many things are in an area that you cannot reach without removing something.

Any recommendations or something that can be done to prevent? Would spraying a layer of urethane do the trick?

On my Blue Bird Wanderlodge I would disconnect cannon plugs use dielectric grease and re-connect.

That works... But it's not easy since they have a penchant for burying everything

Yes, dielectric grease was used on the new plug. I asked for a picture of

the old plug, as soon as I get it, I will post picture of where this plug is

located. you can see it laying on the ground, I don't know if it can be

unplugged from the ground.

Here are the pictures of the old male/female 47 pin and the new, so when you are under looking up along side the drivers fuel tank and the frame,
behind the drivers front tire you can see the connector there. Don't think that you can reach it and unplug it. Maybe you can.
