M2 Throttle Shim (Check when reduction in power)
Every now and then, for whatever reason, we have seen a slight reduction in power when the throttle pedal is not getting enough travel.
We thought maybe it was the carpet, but it seems to be hit-or-miss regardless of carpet. So I think there maybe be some variance when the pedal gets installed at Freightliner. Sometimes maybe the carpet causes an issue, sometimes it does not.
Someone asked earlier, how to tell or how to check. I know that Freightliner has a way to check, I'm not sure we do. In any event, they are checking 100% when it goes in for alignment and shimming (if needed).
I asked my guys to describe what we do when they shim them. They say its a little tough to describe, but hopefully the attached pictures give you an idea of what gets done.
Proceed at your own risk. I am not promoting this or suggesting you take this on yourself...but something for Freightliner to look at if you feel you're not getting enough power at take off. The other item to check is to make sure that it is starting off in Performance mode. If you hit M on the transmission, it will change to the "other" mode. Ours are supposed to start in Performance and hitting M puts them in Eco mode.
PS. he said you need a
6" T-40 Torx
13mm socket
14" extension for the socket

I was one of those asking about this. Could you check and see if someone did this, would it have any negative results if it weren't needed? Seems like you are just making a mechanical adjustment and not an electronic one?
Thanks for the follow through..

That is correct...just a mechanical adjustment to make sure the pedal has enough room for travel.

This is good info. I am guessing 6 washers should give us turbo boost? LOL.

Good info, Thank you once again Brian. My scan guage would only show 100% TPS if I stood on the pedal with both feet. I had shaved the bottom of the pedal some but I think the washers will be a good solution for full throttle. There is a physical stop on the pedal assy so you will not be able to depress past that limit.

If some is good, then more is better right? Why not 10 washers and give yourself M2-112 performance?

I agree, just keep adding washers until the tires spin. LOL

Walt - curious what you were seeing on the scan gauge prior to adjusting the pedal. Mine has always shown 97% with the pedal on the floor, and I figured it wasn't worth fooling with.
Thanks,
JT

I just looked at mine and it looks like the factory already did this. There are some washers taped together and placed behind the bottom of the pedal mount.
It seems to me that the limiting factor is where the pedal hits the mount. It almost looks like it could be shaved to get more leverage.

How soon will the 100hp washers be made available through parts?

I did this mod and add 3 washers to the bottom 2 mounts when this post first came out and since May I’ve driven it to Dover DE and Gettysburg’s on 2 separate occasions and I can say going over the Pa mountain had more power meaning I could maintain 70mph with more peddle movement still available in fact it didn’t take much distance to floor it get it up to 75+ mph up the mountain. I wish I would’ve known that before I cut a hole through the maximizer floor mat because that floor mat on top of the carpet it wouldn’t get out of it own way. It was fairly simple to do this.

Did the shims to mine a couple days ago. All it did was change the angle of the pedal to a more comfortable position. Mine didn't have anything preventing full travel.
Driving down to Las Vegas to have my RV door replaced after someone tried to break in to it I didn't notice any change in power; just a bit more comfortable position for my foot.

I had a power problem and cut a notch out of the mats to allow for the pedal to get the correct angle. No problems since, but I'll check to see if I have the shims...always down for more power! :-)

M2 Throttle Shim (Check when reduction in power)
I added 1/2” poly spacer on bottom of mine today. Previously I was getting a consistent 83% on my throttle reading, after fix I am getting a consistent 97% reading. It did not appear that I had a problem looking at the throttle but with the throttle reading I knew I was not getting full throttle so I decided to make the fix and see.
