My REV is Over Weight

I just weighed my 2016 REV with nothing in it at all, even gas hand on empty. The front axel was fine but I am 30 lbs over on rear axel with nothing in it. So if I add clothes and food it will be 200 to 250 over in the rear. Does that seem ok? Safe?

GVWR is 5291 rear axel, mine weighed 5320. I did forget 50 lbs I have in the storage in the back, charcoal, small tool box, etc. So without that I would be 5270, 21lbs under. No leaks, nothing wrong with unit. It is a 2016 RB.

Post the last 8 of the VIN, I can take a look at the weight sticker when it left. Something was obviously changed or the scale is off. Water tank is empty?

Do you have the scale sticker? who weighed it?

Could be scale is off some. There may be a gal or two water in tank, no more than that.

Unfortunately that was before we started digitizing everything, so I would have to pull hard copy of the sticker. if you are the original owner, it looks like Brian Meeks emailed that CCC sticker back on June of 2018 to a Ronnie Gee.

Yes that was me, the original owner. He mailed me a copy of the sticker that is on the door, not the CCC. Iwould love to see the CCC. Thats what I requested at the time. That would be a big help. Thank you!

Here is the CCC sticker.

As I recall, the Promaster was always a little closer on the rear...the front had plenty of capacity for whatever reason, so the more you can shift weight to the front the better. The RB had the water tank up front under the sofa which helps.

So overall, you have 986 lbs of CCC.

I think someone on here put a spare tire on the front (Was the Delco???) which shifted weight to the front. In later years...and maybe yours had this, we were using the Dynaride system from MORryde which raised the back end up, also pushing more weight to the front. Driver/passenger obviously does.

We also did some things when I got here to shed weight overall. Changing out the glass shower door to a lighter weight Arcadia which also gave more room in the shoulder area.

Mr. Clemens, thank you very much for that info. So Dynamax weighs the whole unit, not just the front and back seperate? I was hoping to get the dry weight on the rear end. You folks at Dynamax are the best. You all have helped me so much. Greg is wonderful!

The rear axle had about 400 lbs to spare as it was weighed...no fresh water or passengers. So they are not always accurate from that sense. It is better to get a 4 corner weight when you have it ready for travel, then you can adjust from there.

The main reason I posted is because I searched the forums for info on cargo weight before buying. The manufacturers don't post that info because buyers wouldn't understand it. I would have understood front/rear dry weight and it would have saved me a $62000 mistake. I bought the REV to use as a van with a kitchen sink and bath. We all love it. It suits our needs better than anything else I looked at. If we camp it will be 2 and lightweight cargo except maybe a scooter on rear hitch which would make rear axle over weight. If we dry camp 40gal+40gal holding tanks 1/2 full adds 350 lb to rear axle. If we do a family outing to the beach 6 passengers and light beach gear overloads rear axle.

REV24RB has a door sticker that says not to exceed 9350 lb GVWR. Dynamax also placed a sticker with Dry Weight 8024 lb, Cargo Capacity 1108 lb. The dealer filled gas, propane, and water when I bought it. I went to DOT scale Front Axle 3540 lb + Rear Axle 5220 lb = 8760 lb which is less than 9350 lb GVWR. My problem is my wet weight with no cargo is only 60 lb less than 5291 lb RAWR. I later weighed 4 corners and right rear was 2725 lb or 80 lb over 5291/2. That's no passengers, no holding tank water, nothing in storage.

How can I possibly carry 5 x 150 lb passengers unless they all sit on the front axle? They may be able to sit in the 4 belted seats in the back if I dump all water, propane, and gas before driving?

We post on this forum weights all the time. One thing I can suggest, is we started using a suspension system called Dynaride...not sure if yours has this, but it seemed to raise the back end up off the bump stops and shifted weight to the front.

Also, the rear hitch is utility only...its not even big enough for a normal ball hitch device You would be better off, trying to get the scooter on a front rack (I have seen both bikes and spare tires done that way, depending on weight). That puts a decent amount of weight up front and counter balances the rear.

Also, are you original owner? If you are 8760, unloaded, that is only 590 lbs of CCC left. But when weighed at the factory, we had 1108. Something doesn't jive here.

Oh, never mind I re-read. It looks like water tank was full. With a lightweight chassis like that, even a Sprinter which is rated higher, it does not leave a lot of room for full water tanks.

I know what you mean. It is just my wife and I plus little dog. If I am 300 lbs over in the rear end I just can't worry about it anymore. Just wondering what it will do to the resale value.

I'm still driving my REV. I put new tires on and keep lots of air in them especially the rear. I try to drive 60 which seems easier now that I'm 70. My wife got an accessibility scooter and I put it on the front. Maybe I need to go over the scales again and see how much that helped balance the rear?
