Need 20 AMP 12 VDC Circuit Breaker

Does anyone have a wiring diagram of an ISATA 5 DS? I want to install a power cord reel and I need a 12 VDC power source protected by a 20 Amp circuit breaker.

Are there spaces to add extra breakers in the box? And where can I buy breakers?

Thanks,
Casey

Are you talking about a 12vdc motorized power cord reel? Any empty spaces in your power center will be for 120vac breakers or 12vdc fuses. If it is a motorized power cord reel then you will most likely have to install a mini fuse, resettable fuse or an auto-reset fuse inline with the 12vdc positive wire to the motorized cord reel.

Thanks. I can buy all this at an auto parts store?

Talking

Plastic encased - auto reset
The metal encased type are a bit more risky. If they were to come apart, the internal conductors could make contact with the casing which is typically mounted to a grounded surface.

12vdc circuit breakers are available at most marine supply stores. I was looking at that for mine (eventually) but there’s no place to instal on the left side so l thought I should get a few hookups and see how much cable I would need. The best reel I’ve located is a Glendinning but the cable is only 36 ft in the rv reel type. With 8ftof beam and 2-3 ft vertical drop there’s only about 25 ft reach an I don’t know what to expect in most camp grounds.😎

Oh yeah Casey, run a 30 amp fused (2ft prox) from the source to a box with said breaker in the reel compartment.😎

depending on where your converter/load center is located you may want to run a separate wire direct from your battery, for ease of installation. In that cse you will need an inline fuse holder similar to this:

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Seachoice...&wl13=&veh=sem

You should mount it as close to the battery as possible to protect the entire length of wire from the battery to wherever you need i to go for the reel.

So you take the compleat original cord off to hook it up and then replace it and wind it back it on for storage? It looks like it might be a viable option. If you do the instal let me know how it works out. It looks like my delivery has slipped a bit but the closer it gets the higher the excitement factor!

You could hard wire a cord too, and it would have to be attached on the utility bay side, but you don't have room on the drivers side to install the reel, at least I don't, plus hard wiring the shore power cable is over my pay grade. And the hard wired reels are about $400. Scott put in a Morryde hand crank reel and he likes it, this is very similar, just no hand cranking. I had them on a couple of busses I had and they are very nice, and really help in the utility hook up department.

Wiring my Power Cord powered reel.

So now that I have parts. So take a Red wire from the positive side of the battery post (the post where the solar feeds in?) run a short piece and put an inline fuse (20amp) to protect the wire in case it gets frayed. Run that red wire over to the storage bay where I have my Reel installed. Mount the 20amp circuit breaker on the bulk head near the reel. Attach the battery red wire to one side. The red wire from the switch to the other side. Run the black wire to one of the mounting bolts for the plastic cargo bay (they'd be screwed into the frame?) and it should work?

What size wire for the long run, 10ga? 12ga? multi strand automotive I presume?

Advice?

I would run a 10ga duplex with 30amp on hot and a dedicated ground. The 20 amp breaker sounds good. 😎

What is a 10ga duplex?

You mean a 30amp fuse?

Dedicated ground is a black wire to the frame?

Thanks for the help.

Why this kind of wire? You are recommending that the ground go all the way to the battery? Why? Just trying to learn.
Thanks

Duplex is 2 conductors in one cable. I just assumed the wire would run out side of the cabin and you would use UF cable. A30amp fuse is appropriate for a 10gage conductor. The “upstream” fuse protects the wire and the 20amp breaker protects the load and acts as a disconnect. Grounding at the battery screw terminal is much less likely to develop corrosion and subsequent poor grounding. The ground is also carrying current. That’s just the way I would do it (probably will). Either way let me know how it works out in actual use😎
