New Kitchen Drawer Boxes
Got a couple of my winter projects done this week. One of which was to swap out the kitchen drawer boxes. The original ones have 16" slides but the drawers are less the 15" deep. Also, the drawers aren't as tall as any of the openings. This is the most problematic on the bottom drawer of our TS where there's a 4" tall drawer used for an 8" opening...towels are constantly falling out the side and back of the drawer.
So I ordered 3 new maple dovetailed boxes...deeper and taller to match the openings. What a big difference small differences make! LOL

Thanks. I got them from The Cabinet Door Store. They had the best prices.

Did you use the same drawer fronts or have to get new ones?
And if so, how did you match the stains?
Looks really nice!

Thanks. I used the same drawer fronts. The taller boxes cover the holes for the handles. I used the existing holes in the drawer front as a guide to drill the holes in the new boxes and bought longer bolts. I also re-used the screws for the drawer fronts from the old boxes on the new ones as well. I countersunk those just like they were on the originals.

kinda frustrating that they make them that way. You pay for an 8" drawer but get a 4. I guess that creates a different saying. You pay for what you don't get.
I see that a lot in housing too, sometimes they have a metal bar at the top, stuff still falls through. You did the right thing. I have been a woodworker by hobby since junior high and I build all my cabinets from scratch, so I notice that sort of thing right away.

We bought a new Heartland Bighorn last year at this time and after using it the first time this summer I was thinking the same exact thought, the unit itself is built well, except like any other camper or with out spending a million dollars on a Prevost the cabinets are not the best construction. Fortunately I am a carpenter with a full wood shop in my garage so I will be making them myself, hmmmm sounds like a business opportunity for myself when I retire, in 6 years that is. Regardless, nice job and it looks great.
