Almost all company owned comercial big truck are governed to 65-68 mph with progressive shifting installed in computer been that way for a lot of yrs. nothing new. It all has nothing to do with tires or weight. It has to do with reaction time

Hmmmm, I don't think trucking companies give a flip about reaction time. My trucker friends tell me it's all about saving fuel and the bottom line $$$. All their trailers now have aerodynamic skirts, hubcaps, nosecones, and tailfins. They get bonuses based on their fuel savings and the top fuel saver every quarter gets a paid for vacation trip.

Maybe I should get some of that stuff for the 5ver?

My 2013 GMC 1500 5.3 hit the limiter about 105. Not pulling the TT for those that would just have to ask.
Haven't tried the 3500HD Duramax...yet, maybe in northern NM were the road is flat for miles and miles...don't think it is going to be a rocket sled though

That rule would be an accident waiting to happen. There are times where you have to exceed the speed limit because there is no other choice once committed. Penske is using speed limiters now and it is a pain.

All u have to do is go to a racing shop n have them program a super chip for yer vehicle it bypasses the 96 mph limit

I drove a package car (brown truck) for UPS for 30+ years and the one I drove from 1996(7.3 IH motor) on was governed at 68mph. On I75 that was all it would do, it's in the programming of the engines computer so it wouldn't take much to hold them all back.

Sure they do. There driver is a company's biggest liability. You the consumer will pay for the fuel. I owned a comercial trucking outfit for quite sometime and was very successful. Any driver will make or break ya. Most companies are self insured and it's not due to saving a few bucks on fuel

Couple of folks who work with Swift Trucking told me all of their trucks are in constant communication with the computers at headquarters. If one of them is speeding the computer sends an alarm to dispatch. They then contact the driver for an explanation or with a warning. Too many warnings result in job loss for the driver. Not sure of the speed or time parameters, but I've rarely seen a Swift rig speeding.

I had to chuckle when I read this. I'm sure things are different back east, but out west we always comment on how the Swift trucks are one of the few trucking companies that don't seem to have governors or care much about speed. We see a lot of them on I10 between NM and CA. I try to keep up them occasionally (like on head wind days) but 70 is usually my limit and they soon lose me

I had a 2010 Chevy suburban 1500 for work that was limited (governed) at 98. Hit it all the time.

I agree with the speed limits proposed, all of the proposed ones. People say the truck speeds will not work with 80 (or 85) mph speed limit's. It will and does. Trucks in California have a speed limit of 55 and some places here are 70. 15 mph speed differences are no big deal when the heavies are in the right lanes.

Bottom line is that I would much rather be hit from behind by a big rig at 68 (62 or 58) than 70 or 75. Tonnage and lug nuts ALWAYS win and the laws of physics always are true.

Have you looked around you in traffic currently? There are LOTS of driverless vehicles as the actual drivers are texting, eating, talking on the phone, talking on the phone while eating, checking their iPod music, etc. With the computer doing some driving at least someone is trying to stay on the road without hitting me!

Absolutely, positively correct!!! After years of driving L.A. freeways, I have ceased to be surprised by what people will do while driving. Bring on the computers.
