New Speed Limiting Device Being Suggested

The US is trying to pass a law that would put an electronic device on all vehicles over 28,000lbs to limit the speed to 65 mph. It says all New Vehicles, but didn't limit it to commercial vehicles. I wonder if the Dynamax's of the future will be limited to 65mph?

Yeah, just what we need, more laws.

I can't think of any pleasant comment regarding this rule or anything else from the commissars.

Couldn't they just require that all drivers be married?

It'd accomplish the same thing.................

Wait until we all have "autonomous" vehicles. You'll only go as fast as the gov't's computers will let you.

Is that from the 2500 up or does it include the 1500's as well?

Most new vehicles are speed limited, a little less, than the speed rating of the tires installed at the factory.

But limiting trucks is ludicrous, they are better off taking bad truck drivers off the street. In states where the trucks are supposed to go 10 under, it can cause more problems when the truck takes twenty miles to pass another truck and they tie up the left lane.

As for the possible new regulation; it sucks just like most idiotic gov't regs.

The way I read the proposal was for all vehicles over 28k lbs to be speed restricted so that there can be a baseline for the fuel mileage requirements coming in 2025 or 2030. Looks as if the industry is gravitating around 68mph as the magic number. Truck mfgs say that will make it easier to focus on getting the most on fuel economy touting numbers like 43%. All though some of the newest trucks are saying they get almost ten, they are also saying that real world twelve is possible.

Many fleet operators have said that they will install limiters on all their trucks to keep speeds to 68 regardless of truck age. It would be up to independents from there.

Now I don't drive a big rig and I do understand they get paid by mile, so I get where they want to get work done faster. I don't have an opinion. I do see the math that mpg saved could equal out or better miles lost in a day. But without truck drivers, I can't get food, clothing or toys to play with.

I admit I'm curious.
How does anyone KNOW that their truck, their two vehicle, has a 96 mph upper limit???

Truck shuts down (like you are out of gas). I got a heavy foot. I have never towed over 68mpg but I have hammered it before when not towing.

It take very little time to get there and less to get down from there.

I learned about the speed limiting on the Ram 1500 by comments on one of the truck forums. And, yes, several folks there reported they tested it many times and it works. I said 96 but don't hold me to that...my memory ain't that great. It could be 106. Either way, the only way I'm going faster than 90 on the ground is if I have a couple of Rolls turbofans pushing me.

I believe all the M2's are set to 85 already.

The Ram 5500 comes with an option of 60, 65, 70 and 77.

As f5moab says...trucks going slower than the speed limit slow everybody else down. When the trucks go 10 MPH slower than the rest of us, it makes it hard sometimes for us RV'ers to pass them in traffic.
